busted my chain clean in half tonight out here in west yellowstone. does this happen very often. i got spare parts along to fix it. im thinking A/C m8 sounds real nice bout right now. not to impressed at this point handling isnt all there imo. is the nytro any better.

how many miles. did you have it set at the right tension?

Chains fail, sometimes for no reason, but not too often.

around 70 miles on this chain. just went to 20 42 gearing and put a 70 link chain on. tension was good. one thing that it might be. i bought a polaris chain. but its a hyvo same width. tom hartman told me as long its a hyvo it should work. so im gonna put my stock chain and gears back in for now.

I cant back it up and I cant remember where I read it, but someone who knew thier stuff said to never ever ever use anything but a yamaha borg warner chain or they will break. I have always used them and never had a failure even under boost. Good luck!

well i tore into it this am. need a whole new case its all busted up. all gears are ok. but the chain is busted and the bolt that holds the bottom gear is sheared off. its not pretty looking.

Yeah, I wondered about that, there isn't much room in there for broken parts to float around. Usually a broken chain means new case. Sorry.

Does seem like the yammi chain is pretty tough though as lots run them boosted and get by fine.

I have learned in the past that saving a couple bucks buying a non-stock cheaper part usually ends up biting you in the end. The OEM Yamaha chain price seems way too high, but the cost of the chaincase and related parts are a lot worse.JMO

well i called tom hartman today and supposively borg warner makes the ploaris hyvo chain as well. after looking into it and doing some more research on it it sounds like the bottom gear bolt come lose and unthreaded it self. just so you all know the snow in west yellowstone is fabulous also. renting a pro rmk tomorrow. hope the spelling is good because i just closed the bar.

When you changed the gearing, did you use a Yamaha sprocket or aftermarket? I've found with polaris that many aftermarket sprockets (bottom) must be installed with an extra spacer that is usually included, where as the Polaris sprocket does not require this. Lay a straightedge across bosth sprocket faces to check fianl allignment.
