Chain oil

Hopefully putting the old girl back together Thursday, what chain/gear oil should I use? Some special Cat brand or just any type of gear oil out there suitable? What weights should I look for?

Use atf in the chaincase.

I use a synthetic 5w-20 but I am sure ATF would work fine! Just make sure it is still fluid in cold weather. Which ATF to use? most slippery? Mike

Thanks I was wondering the same thing! I have 4 chain cases to fill, last year I bought some full syn. chain case oil $12 bucks a bottle and it looked like ATF! I like the idea of full syn. 5 w 20, I will try it out

good ole atf does the job. flows good at low temps and definitely easier on the check book then the synthetic gear oils on the market.

So you guys would go with ATF over a synthetic blend gear oil 85 90? ... In the Chain Case?

Keep it thin as possible, I use 5w 20 but really anything that will stay liquid in cold temps will work, ATF is just fine!

I've always just went and bought the cat stuff..its a few bucks, but you only need to change the oil in the case once a year (or maybe twice a year if you ride a LOT). Not a lot of money in the long run and you know you have the right stuff.
