anyone have detailed info on setting up chain drive? my pulleys are close to being done, was thinkin about chain instead of new pulleys belt and bearings! cost effective? weight?

You won't be lighter with the chain drive.
I checked mine (that I still didn't put on) and it's around 9 pounds. I could shave at least another pound by drilling the sprockets I have...

The stock 36mm belt drive system is the lightest drive system you will find.

As you know rotating weight is what you want to get rid of a lot more than static weight...

I see chain drive as the bullet proof solution though...

Roo, with your 550 fanner i think I would stick with the belt system. Its lighter, and the 550 does not have the torque of the 600 or 800's. The first go around on a chain is not cheap by any means. After initial set up it gets better but unless your looking to get rid of the TLS because of "slipping when not desired" issues, stick with the belt system.

503 does not have a TLS which is exactly my point. The TLS was a bandaid to stop the belts from tearing themselves apart from the torque of the 600 motor. I say bandaid because with a clutch pack they didn't have to go back to the drawing board on their drive system to produce somthing that would live for a decent amount of time.

TLKD put the chain drive on, you won't notice a performance difference, You will be happy you did put it on. If you go with a 503 system, the first time you shock load that thing in a little low spot and blow all the cogs off the belt you'll be pi$$ed. At least try the chain drive, you can allways go back.

belt

anyone have spare 503 belt they would be willing to part with, sounds like might need a backup!

Tls

who has converted to the chain drive and don't need the belt drive parts anymore. I think these will work on the 503 and then use the wider belt and problem solved. MO

503 tls

i bought one of their tls set ups and it works fine on the 503 exept the width is affecting my body panel at the bottom. the tls allens are rubbing through..sure beats a broken belt.......
