Hey All
The Central Oregon Avalanche Association is holding an event at McMenamins in Bend on February 18th at 8:30 ($10 suggested donation). All proceeds will go towards supporting COAA avalanche training, education and awareness efforts
COAA will be presenting "The Fine Line" An Avalanche Education Film. Come support COAA efforts, enjoy a great film, and get some cool stuff in the raffle after the show. This is an event for all backcountry users. I hope to See you there.
About COAA:
COAA was established as a result of an identified need to promote increased avalanche awareness and bolster local forecasting opportunities in Oregon.
We are backcountry skiers, alpinists, snowboarders, snowmobilers, and snowshoers on a mission to:
- Increase information exchange through coordination with local guide and mountain snow safety experts.
- Raise funds to promote / increase snowpack data and weather forecasting accuracy in Central Oregon by purchasing and installing Weather Stations and needed equipment at sites frequented by winter recreationalists.
- Raise funds for the maintenance and bolstering of the BCA Beacon Park at Mt. Bachelor.
- Increase public awareness by promoting avalanche transceiver clinics and backcountry safety procedures.
While there is a risk associated with any backcountry adventure, knowledge and practice is key to limiting unnecessary accidents and unfortunate fatalities associated with winter terrain that are a strain not only on family and friends of victims but also on local search and rescue entities.
