cement guys

I am pouring a footing to support a 4'X9' piece of granite (grave cover) it weighs approx. 4000 lbs. I'm using a trencher to dig a 6" wide tench all the way around the grave. My question is in regards to how deep I will have to dig to get the proper support required for this weight. I'm putting this in Sask., so it will be subject to frost in and out of the ground. I've calculated that the weight would work out to approx 2.5 lbs per square inch applied to the top of the concrete footing. I've also figured that I would need just less than 1 cu. yard of concrete to do this @ 18" deep, but I would appreciate those who know this business check my numbers or pm me a formula. Would it be a good idea to add the fiberglass (toothpicks?, I don't know the real term for it) to the concrete, and what would be the recommended way of doing the re-bar in the trench? This is for my Dad, so I want to make sure it's right. Post or pm me, thanks in advance. D.

you may want to go deeper because of the frost!!!!!! if you're not deep enough with your foundation walls, they WILL heave!!!!!

Frostline is somewhere around 4-5'. Course his grave is in the bald azz prairie, so not too much moisture there, the native grass pretty much sucks up whatever rain they get there. Would I have to go that deep just cause of frost? I'm a little leary going too deep cause of the location and all.:face-icon-small-sho Thanks again. D.

your pouring a footing for a monument for on top of the grave? 12"-16" of concrete should be fine. put lots or rebar in it to keep it together. i would also put foam in bottom of hole at least a foot wider all around will help wonders with frost heaving.4" of foam would be good.
