cell phone service rabbit ears

Verizon works OK, but not to fast for internet. I think I recall that sprint has faster internet access. That's from the RE pass area parking lots. Voice coverage is pretty good in the sledding area, except down in the holes.

so would you say sprint and verizon as far as phone reception both work about the same?

I have had good luck with Verizon. Works most places on the mountain and good enough in the lot to stream video.

But don't count on ever being able to use your phone for an emergency. Service on the mountain is spotty enough that chances are when you need it...it won't work.

Verizon. Sprint has been spotty as far as texting and voice. I can get Verizon in most places except deep holes and draws. Also, it works better on the northern half of the area and not so much on the South side.

As for internet, I guess it just depends an what particular verizon device you are using for it. Aircards don't cut the mustard much but the newer smart phones seem to do quite well.

I've got sprint that roams on verizon, most places I'm on sprint, with decent service. Keep in mind with most sprint plans, if you don't have service & verizon does... you still do.

Sprint is also MUCH cheaper if you use a lot of data services. I recently was considering switching from sprint to verizon for my 3 lines, checked coverage in the mountains, then looked at the data plans & it was a VERY easy choice to go back to sprint. If you're not a geek though verizon is great, and seems to usually have a better choice of phones sometimes.

AT&T is touch and go for me. I definitely would not rely on it up there. It's even spotty in Kremmling.

hows your summer pj?

Speaking of geek stuff. SPOT just came out with a unit that connects your smart phone via satellite so you can communicate by text message from pretty much anywhere on the planets surface. https://www.findmespot.com/upgrade/

I got one of these from snowbigdeal this summer, and we use it every day. (Abby works S of Kremmling where there's no cell service)

Been very happy with it so far, it's a little tricky to get set up right, but as long as you don't wait till you're out in the bush to do it, and dedicate a few min to getting it how you want it... it's great.

The 14 messages are really handy, and being able to type something if needed is pretty cool.

Aside from the obvious emergency side of things, it's a really useful unit otherwise also.

Btw, if anyone on here wants a spot, I've got an original model that I'll trade for a bottle of wine (no mad dog or thunderbird included in this promotion though... sorry :D)

BCIL!! Seriously, wine? Why not go for something manly, like say, Crown or Jack D. Wine? Sheesh!
