Cell Phone Coverage Winter Park To Rabbit Ears

Going to be changing carriers shortly and wanted to ask what is the best network to go with. Currently have T-Mobile and it does not have very good coverage in the remote areas. I mainly stay along 40 from Winter Park to Rabbit Ears, occasional trips to Grand Lake. So far most people I have asked say Verizon is the one, looks like Sprint may be a contender. Thanks for your response. Not concerned about DATA just phone coverage.

I've always felt AT&T works best off the paved path. Been with Tmobile, used Sprint and Verizon. I liked ATT for getting out and off the roads. T-Mobile worked the best in metro areas.

Sprint roams on Verizon, Verizon roams on sprint.

Used to be that the slightly better network of Verizon mattered, but with current plans, it doesn't matter if you're roaming or not anymore.

More importantly though, sprint's data plan is ACTUALLY unlimited, no slowing down BS, and no extra charges.

I've looked at switching over the years, but with 3 phones my bill would be WAY higher with Verizon.

With Sprint I can send text messages in places Verizon phones can not, dont know why but it has been proven over and over with friends.

We were heading up to Rabbit Ears last year, 2 of us had Sprint and 2 had Verizon. The 2 of us with Sprint had no bars but the Verizon phones were able to make calls.
My wife works for Halliburton so she has to travels a lot to out of the way locations, her original Sprint phone would almost never work. She had to switch to Verizon to get any service. I plan on switching to Verizon when my contract allows it.

Verizon is the best service up here, there is only a few spots west of Kremmling, east of muddy pass where my phone will drop a call headed to he ears.

Used to have Sprint. Basically had to turn my phone off when out West. Never worked.

Switched to Verizon and I've made calls from back in the boonies while riding. I vote Verizon.

I ride in the Steamboat area and have decent coverage with ATT on Rabbit Ear's. Buffalo Pass I actually get way better coverage than my friends with Verizon. Supposedly ATT has a tower on top the ski resort

That being said, I am changing to Verizon. Just can't justify staying with ATT when the only place in the country I've noticed better reception than Verizon is on Buff Pass.

I actually work for a cell phone company that roams with AT&T and T-Mobile and while I can't say how good verizons cell coverage is I know ours is always improving in the area. Just put a new site in this week at Muddy Pass and will be releasing it to the public next week. Also have sites on top of Walton Peak, Buffalo Pass and plans to have another site up on the east side of Buff pass next week. Should see great improvements near the ears with these new sites this year! As far as coverage on hwy 40 we have sites at Winter Park, Grand Lake, Kremmling, and built a new site last week above Granby for improved service in that valley.

I live in Grand County, as Tec said Verizon is it. You can get what you want, but that is what 98% of the folks here use. My family with AT&T couldn't get service half the time in my living room this last week and coverage was spotty at best the rest of the time. Yes it costs more, but that is the best coverage up here, that's why everyone has it. I wish there was some decent coverage with other carriers, but there currently is not. Maybe in the future when all these competing towers are built and running we can drop to a lower price carrier. I'm paying $170 a month with two phones (one smart phone) 1200 minutes, ect.

I used my Nextel/sprint iphone two weekends ago by the south tower and it was great, at RE. I could use Google earth without any issues. I used it on main street three weeks ago in Grandlake and just gave up. It's also dead in Kremmling. I have always felt that VZ had the best over all coverage. Though VZ in Summit County has great coverage but is very slow when using data when all the people show up.

Side note- A lot of providers will be switching over to Comcast cellbackhaul within a few years (like in Denver), except Steamboat and Kremling.

Good luck.
