OK, so I did it. I burned down my motor. I did it...cuz I'm ignint
Explanation as follows
My sled is a 12 Pro 800 with a 163. Oiler turned up to 40:1 since new. I'm running the PAR long rod installed at 2183 miles. Another top end at 3912 this past October.
OK, so my break in protocol is two tanks of pre-mix (1 qt/tank) and vary the throttle with WOT bursts no longer than 10 seconds for the first 50 miles followed by 20 seconds the 2nd 50 miles and 30 seconds the 3rd 50 miles.
Nearly finished with this last break-in, I was tooling around in the flat light with a mixed group of friends. We had some wives and kids along so nothing too strenuous.
I'm the only Pro in our group. I notice my exhaust is really smokey but I write that off to the pre-mix but what's really happened is my oil control linkage has worn and gone into max oil delivery mode as IT IS DESIGNED TO and I miss it.
And I inadvertently run my sled out of oil. Like a moron.
Smoked a rod bearing in addition to damage to the primary gear (the brass one that drives the oil/water pumps)
Some minor piston scoring but thankfully the cylinders are good.
It's going to be a $2000 lesson for me but you can have for free!!!
Once your sled hits 3000 miles, at it's next rebuild have the oil control linkage replaced--it's a $20 part
