castrol snowmobile oil in 800r

I just bought a new 800r and love it. I was riding and still have a rmk 700. I have been using cheapo oil - castrol snowmobile non synthetic oil and have been doing fine with it in the old sled. Is anyone using this oil in a 800r skidoo? I want to take good care of my ride but $42 a gallon of redline synthetic vs $13 castrol is a big difference.

I run amsoil in all my sleds but I was having problems with my 04 800HO diesiling when shut off so tried castrol mineral oil in it and the problem went away. The 08 800r doesn't seem to burn as much oil as the 07 and earlier motors so although expensive it not as bad as if it was using lots.

Castrol oil

I have been running the cheap Castrol Oil in my sleds for over 20 years. Including the 800 Revs. Owned an '05, '06, '07. also have had the 550f, and 600 HO. My '06 has the SLP 163 hp kit and I've run the sled for three years now without any oil related problems.
In all my years of running sleds (and I'm NO trail rider) I have never had an engine failure.
Once a year you might want to pull the exhaust valves and clean them up a little. But I've never seen anything bad enough that would hinder the performance of the valve moving up and down. just my .02 worth.
AND I have heard it's hard to get an engine (rings to seal) to break in properly with synthetic oil. Petroleum oil helps the rings seal quicker (better compression). We use to run our motocross bikes with a heavier mix of oil/gas, because the heavier oil (mix) created better compression

I have a friend that has ran it in his Rotax 583 in his kitplane for 15 years, FAA requires crank work after so many hours, has sent it in four times, twice they put new seals in it and turned it around, the FAA guys were calling him asking him what was making his cranks last so long, its the Castrol! Also, friend with a KK 900, piped, reeds, and rides it haaaard, never had an issue with it either. Just dunno.

have run castrol for years..first in big block chevy race engines(twin 500 hp nitrous kits)then in stockers..and sleds..have never lost a bearing due to lube problem...have pounded rod and crank bearings flat on the sauce in my mud motor,..but crank only needed a polish to go back togeather.....

been running castrol mineral for many years without any problems! but since i got my xp..ive been using shell advance.....and the reason for this is because it went on sale and was same price as castrol..lol!

now that i'm older and wiser...i shake my head when i see others spend $$$ on oils not needed...and i'm not stingy with money.. and spend where needed!

i ran $9.00 a GALLON arctic blue oil in my 04 ho. Put 3800 miles. never even looked at the exhaust valves . this last fall i decided to redo top end. pulled exhaust valves and they looked like brand new my buddies couldn't believe that i never cleaned them before. the crank case had a nice coating of oil too. oil cosumption it was very high also 3 quarts to 100 miles. They can take there $30-$40 oil and keep it

I've been running Castrol for many years. I've never had to clean my exhaust valves.Had great luck with it.Wasnt that long ago I could get it for $7.00 a gallon this year I paid $15.99.I just cant get myself to spend 30 to 40 bucks a gallon on synthetic oil.:)
