cast or chrome bore?

how do if i have a chrome bore or a cast bore?

i have a txl 340, and im wanting to rebuild it because it is reallllllly low on compression, and i cant tell if i have cast of chrome bore...

the serial number on the cylinders is " EC34PL - 02 " piston number ( both left and right ) " 09706 " thanks guys

i looked on a site and i think it is a chrome bore..... if i put a new piston and rings in here will it seal up and give me good compression or do i have to get a new sleve? if i have to get a new sleve ill just go on ebay and find a 400 indy motor

Most everything back then was a cast sleeve, shouldn't matter if you're just putting in new pistons and rings....or did you plan a overbore?

Take a magnet and see if it will stick to the bore. If your magnet holds strong to the bore its cast, if the magnet just barely sticks its nicasil.

its a 340 so im not planning an over bore, but if it was out of round i would have to bore it any way to get the rings to seal

ill go try that, thanks :D:beer;

Nikasil is coated over alumium not coated cast, look at the ports and see if there is a thick sleeve or thin.
