Carls 860cfi Dragon kit? Is it worth it?

Does this kit clear up the reliability issue that the dragons had with their engines? What are the pros and cons and with kind of experience have you guys had with it? Whats it like compared to stock? Thanks for the help!

Im thinking along the same lines! I have an 08 800 and its had all the updates plus new ecu, wiring harness ,stator and still am not trusting it! Any info would be nice and costs!

Ok, I've built 2 860s on 2008 Dragons. I did them both in early 2009. The last time I saw the sleds (they are customer sleds) one had 2k miles on the kit, the other 1600 on it. That was early last year. Both riders have done not one thing to them other than gas and oil and they love them.

Originally we were using Vforce reeds in them, which have crap for longevity, so we switched back to the stock reeds and have no more problems.

Performance. I did the dial in on them against a full mod 03 Vertical Escape 800 (porting, pipes, 2.5" track, chain case roll, etc). In a drag race on flat ground they were pretty equal, but drag racing means nothing.

On a hill that you couldn't climb out of because of deep snow the 860 would climb 50% further than the Escape. The Escape can outclimb stock Dragon 800s.

That is my experience with the 860 kits. The other nice thing about them is they are unstoppable no mater the snow depth. With the single pipe they submarine along in 4' of powder without missing a beat.

If I had a Dragon and was doing a mod motor it would be an 860.

I had Carl's Cycle put their 860 kit in my 09 Dragon after the cylinder skirt cracked. Before I discovered the cracked cylinder skirt I had been running it with a shaved head and cylinder ported,Carbon Tek reeds and SLP pipe. In my opinion this will make the Dragon 800 much more dependable because it does away with Polaris's crappy cylinder and pistons and uses Carl's Cycle's.
My riding buddy is on 2012 Pro-163 that is stock and the power of the 860 kit puts me further up the hill or over the hill than him. Their is a 90lb weight difference between us and our sleds so once we get some good powder I am sure it will make a difference but am still confidate in most cases the torque and power of the 860 kit will give me the advantage.
I have had the opportunity to spend a fair amount of time on a Turbo Dragon also, you can't beat the power you can get out of a turbo but the 860 I think will prove its worth in boondocking and durability, I have heard of 4000 plus miles on them with nothing more that new pistons and rings.
The electrical issues of the Dragon I have been lucky so far, just make sure I leave my headlights on high beam and the handwarmers on all the time as per recomended by Carl's, I am assuming it serves as a voltage dump.
The only thing I will probably need to do now is some adjusting on the rear suspension to keep the ski's a little closer to the snow :)
Good luck.
