Carbuerator boot??

Well I took my carbs off tonight to clean them after sitting for a summer just to make sure they didn't gum up or anything. When i was taking them off, I noticed that the boots with the reed valves in them are really cracked and they're shot. Well i started looking around and can't find anything for less that $250 bucks for a pair. Is there anywhere that's cheaper or is that just how much those things cost?
Thanks for any help

AAAAHHHH yes! I just went through this, check out Ebay, get either V-force or Boyesens, you can find them for ~$230. I went with Boyesens, they have an all aluminum boot, then come back to a rubber carb coupler, so there is no way for them to crack, and if the couplers go bad, you can buy just them. I put them in the other day, my only complaint about them is they are VERY tight getting the carbs to pop into the couplers, lube them up a little with WD-40 to help, other than that, very nice looking!

So does the rubber carb coupler come with them then or do you buy that separate? Also are they like the stock ones where the boot and the reed valves are all together in one piece? Will you have to mess with jetting at all?
Thanks

Go OEM for this problem. I tried both V Force (S HIT) and Boysen. The V Force ( S HIT) boots after 4 months, had more cracks in them than a room full of plumbers and to buy replacement boots for V Force (S HIT) reeds was harder than finding a vigin in a whorehouse. Boysen... I wasn't a big fan. When the sled FINALLY ran decent, my trip to the mountains was over. In my opinion, keep it stock enginewise. Because it really isn't worth all the money you put in for the absolute frustration you are going to receive!!:beer;

I haven't changed to any of the aftermarket reeds such as V-Force III's but I have read alot about them cracking and then some folks posted that they changed the compound of the rubber and since then there haven't been any more issues. You may want to research this if you are considering the VF3's.....

I have always kept a light coat of silicone grease on my boots to keep them from drying out from cleaning solvents and such. My 2001 boots look as good as new but this will not help you if your boots are all ready cracked....

Installed a set of Boysens on my 02 800, nice clean throttle response, cleaned up the bottom end gurgle it had. Carb boots made it three years. Replacement boots were $26 to my door. Instructions said to drop one main jet size. Dino
