Carb Heat and Brake Icing

So I'm running a 300XC with a timbersled on it with what I would call mixed results. I'm a guy who rides and races on the wheels 10 months out of the year and wanted this to fill the void. So far it seems like you need a separate winter bike because all this stuff it seems to need is going to cause issues in the summer... So I'm looking for some help and real world experience.

What you guys are running for carb heat? Does the KTM carb heat work with a jacket?

Is anyone needing to cover there 300 motors? I saw there was a kit available from SX slideplates but is it causing issues in warmer temps?

Thermostats, is the standard KTM one from a xcw working ok for everyone?

Last is the can someone explain why the track is allowed to spray snow over brake and up into the backside of the motor ect? Why wasn't this closed off? Our snow here has a higher moisture content then most areas out west and after 2-3 hours mine caliper is a ball of ice and works... well basically it doesn't.

Thanks for the help guys, trying to get this sorted out and running great.....

There is a bunch of info in here on this... I am a firm believer that you need a winter only bike... like you I ride my dirt bike most of the year as long as I can.. I converted a cr500 and used an avid carb heater... then one for ktm will not work. The ktm thermostat is not as good as using a thermobob.. as far as the brake I have not had the issue yet..

I have a 2014 300 XC w/ 2014 ST.
Avid carb heat on stock carb w/ Avid stat.
Both seem to work well.
This week I rode in 5-20 F w/ 2' of fresh no carb icing and kept temps between 100-140.

I also cut the bottom of my air box out and zip tied a little shield to the skid to keep snow from flinging up and it worked well.

the KTM carb heater is a complete and total waste of time. need to use coolant.

get a little wtr temp guage.

lots of info on here if you search

Are you running a carb jacket? And if so did you coil the vent hoses up inside or what are you doing to keep them ice free? Thanks.

My buddy and I are running 300 XCW's with billet Smartcarbs, KTM heaters and carb jackets. Zero issues in a variety of conditions. I think the jacket is the biggest benefit.
