Car vs. Motorcycle wreck

Took the family to Evergreen today and decided to go through Morrison on the way home. About 2 miles from Morrison I was going around a corner and a SUV crossed the centerline, nearly missing me, but hitting the motorcycle behind me. I saw the whole thing in my mirror. I saw the plastic explode and then the rider sliding face down across the asphalt onto the side of the road. I pulled over to call 911 and looked back and the guy was not moving. Two other people ran up to him and just stood there looking at the guy. I didn't have a cell signal, and since there were other people already there, I decided to go down the hill to call 911. I finally got through to them and later on I talked to the State Patrolman that responded to the scene of the accident and gave him my statement.

This accident shook me up quite a bit since my parents and in-laws both ride as well as a lot of friends. Not sure if the guy will make it or not? The patrolman told me that one of the people behind the biker was a nurse and she worked on him immediately. He also said that the guy had at least one broken bone and was conscious when they loaded him into the helicopter so there might be hope. When I talked to another lady at the Jefferson County State Patrol office, she told me there were at least (4) car vs. motorcycle accidents today.

I guess what I am getting at is be careful out there whether you ride a bike or drive a car. There were at least 2 lives changed today that I witnessed in my mirror.

Wow thats crazy hope the guy makes it, and it's no fun to witness something like that. There were a lot of bikes out today do to the nice weather......... drive safe and pay attention people.

The amazing thing about all of these power-sports is that you can do everything right, be trained, equipped, prepared, cognizant and still loose the game.

I've owned an R1 and a Ducati and always felt this feeling a little stronger on a street bike in traffic.

Be careful out there!

MD.

WOW! Thats a horrible thing to have to witness. Was the SUV driver drunk or distracted? That sucks, glad to hear the motorbike rider was alive when he left for the hospital, from the story, I was thinking he was dead on scene.

I have no idea if the SUV driver was drunk, but they were driving entirely too fast for the corner as they almost hit me and I heard the tires squealing before they even got to me. The suv's body was leaning way to the left while turning right around the corner. I looked in my mirror thinking I hope they don't hit someone and saw the carnage.

I hope the patrolman wasn't bs'ing me when he told me the guy was alive, but who knows? A lot of people survive some pretty horrible accidents so maybe this guy beats the odds.

I've got two bikes. 2000 Fat Boy and an 08 Electra Glide Classic. July 7th of 08 I was coming back from Minn on the Classic and had a 84 year old lady turns in front of me. Semi behind me. Layed it down and T-boned her. Semi stopped. (Thank God, I would not look good with a peterbuilt stamped on my butt.)

This year at Sturgis, I was pulling out at Mt Rushmore and a gut hit me from behind. He was pulling out and didn't look.

Haven't been on my bikes since. I have logged thousnds of miles over the road over the years. no problems. But for me twice in a little over the years makes me think twice about it.

I know accidents happen but you guys are all right...You can be the best rider out there & still get nailed for doing something you enjoy. I myself absolutely love riding streetbikes but with a wife & kid depending on you at home....not worth the risk, even out in the country where I live (little traffic) theres still that little chance of having a great day go bad...forever, It really SUCKS.

Yeah, the nice weather brings the bikers out like crazy. Too bad that he was obeying the laws and was a victim. Hope that he pulls through

Not only happens on the road. You might remember I posted about a near disaster accident at Vail Pass last winter. Short version: snowboarder with his girl riding double with him (no helmets) on wrong side of road tops hill with my partner on the correct side doing about 50mph. Partner yanks handlebars and rolls his sled to save them. As the punk passes me he is LAUGHING. I turn and chase him....I am flying and still didnt catch him until he stopped. Words were passed and it was obvious he had no interest in a fight and common sense was returning to me so I pulled my sled off of his (lol) and headed back downhill. Partner was not hurt but sled gained some damage. I wanted to notify authorities but parther said best to just go home.

Waddya suppose the damage would have been two sleds both 50mph or over head on? One of them riding double no helmets?

Be VERY careful at Vail if you go near the snowboarders area thats not the first run in but the most dangerous so far.

My neighbor is a double amputee para because of a motorbike accident that was zero fault of his own. :(

Wth a wife and three daughters to come home to I am not leaving it up to someone else.

Wow we saw that wreck coming down from evergreen I was wondering how the biker did. the bike didn't look that bad on the wrecker but the suv was fawked. It was hit hard the front fender was exploded. Hope he is ok I'm thinking of selling the Harley just don't ride it enough to justify keeping it.

According to the denver post he was alive but air lifted in critical condition. I have been wondering the same all day long. I haven't been contacted by any lawyers or investigators yet, hopefully that is a good sign. I am sure I will hear from them soon enough though, either way.
