Canyon Lands Jeep Trail - Elephant Hill

Anyone been over this in their 4x4/Jeep?

I'm working up a little trip and trying to talk UtahSnow into taking me in his jeep over Elephant Hill down to the Devil's Kitchen campground and then over to see the Green/Colorado confluence.

The people at the Canyon Lands visitor center say "It is one of the most techinical jeep trails in Utah". But several of the 4x4/jeep sites have posts from people who have taken stock 4x4s over it without issue so I am looking for some first hand experience.

Thanks,

I've done it many times. What can I tell you about it?

For a stock jeep with an inexperienced driver it can be challenging, but by technical standards...it's pretty mild. They have actually put concrete in parts of the trail to make it easier for service vehicles to get out there.

However...the scenery is some of the most spectacular. How is the jeep set up? I can give you a better idea if I know what you're driving.

09 rubicon JK unlimited. 3" lift w/ 35" tires. So front and rear lockers and disconnects. No winch.....yet.

You will have no problem...the 4 door rubicons are something else...I've watched many set up just like yours walk right up some extreme stuff....there isn't anything out on the elephant hill trail that will challenge that jeep. There are some decent ledges that will want to hang that long wheel base up in the middle...just keep the tires on the tallest rocks. Load it up and go...you'll have a great time....I'd go with ya if I was around.

With UtahSnow as my chauffeur I'm planning a loop down there. We do Elephant Hill, go see the confluence of the Colorado and Green, then make our way south to Bobby's Hole, through Beef Basin, Up Salt Creek Mesa past Catherdral Butte and back to the highway at Dugout Ranch.

We are planning the weekend of July 9 if anyone wants to come along... We'll go down Friday, camp at Devil's Kitchen and then play around on Saturday.

Wish I could make it. That will be a fun loop. You probably know this...but take plenty of water...it gets hot there that time of year. We'll look forward to the full trip report with pics!
