Can't Steer a 2003 SKS

Hi

I have a 2003 SKS with a 2 inch paddle track. Pretty much stock besides that. Limiter strap in the middle hole. I weigh about 250lbs

I can not steer this pig. Most of my riding is ditch banging and fairly flatland field riding in Saskatachewan.

I was to the mountains a couple times, but don't go regularily.

I very often have to slow considerably to make any sort of adjustments to the steering. Reefing on the handlebars is difficult Tight trails is a real workout. Leaning and hanging off it helps some. Much smaller, less cc sleds leave me in the dust.

My carbides are pretty much worn out on the sidehiller II skis. I was considering new aftermarket skis. I am going to have to lay out some cash for carbides, so it is a good time to consider new skis.

Any suggestions for skis? Prices range from about 250 - 650.

Any suggestions for setup? Could I have too much weight on the skis?

.405 springs in rear. And yes, the SH II's are crap skis. Ran Powder Pro's on an '04 Edge RMk and Pro-X2, very positive steering and control in all conditions. Limiter strap was all the way out.

For ditch banging I'd probably opt for the SLTs insted of the PowderPros.

When you say it doesn't steer is it hard to turn or you turn the bars and it just goes straight or what?

I have brand new set's of carbides for those skis for 20 per ski still in the wrapper.

4 brand new polaris carbides delivered to Canada for 57 dollars =good deal

Ok, block the front of the sled up in the air with the skis off the ground and make sure that there isn't some issue with the steering causing it to bind.

If that checks out, what is the preload like on your front ski shocks? Is the front mount of the rear skid in the stock mounting position? How about the back mounting point of the rear suspension.

You haven't done something like slide the rear suspension back to add that bigger track or anything like that have you?

I would block it up and check. had a buddy that had the same sort of prob. found a spark plug wedged in one of the pivot points
