Cant pull primary clutch need advice

I have an 08 700 that is being a pain. I am trying to get off the primary. I have the clutch puller and have broken two 1/2 drive breaker bars. I have sprayed wd40 behind the non moving sheave, and smeared a ton of grease on the puller. I have beaten the puller to death with a hammer and still no luck. Any help or advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks,
Richard

I have used a good heat gun to heat the hell out of the primary and gotten them to pop. Be careful since you have grease in there. Don't need a fire.

1) STOP using the hammer !

2) Place a wet rag between the back side of the primary clutch and the engine case to protect the crank seal

3) Continue using the mechanical puller,

4) With pressure being applied from the puller, using a torch, heat the center of the primary, clutch will pop off!

1) Put sled on it's side

2) Remove clutch bolt

3) Pour boiling water in bolt hole

4) Grease or teflon tape puller (usually before pouring hot water in). Screw puller in and before it will fully tighten, you can say pow, it will pop off.

Hydraulic method

What he said and splurge on the teflon tape so it doesn't squeeze threw the threads .

Try water first. Holding the sled on it's side to fill pto end up is a pain but works better than brute force.. If that doesn't pull it.. filling it with grease always works but leaves a health mess to clean up!!

Not bad. 5 gallon bucket or a milk crate under the handgrip.

For those who have an aversion to grease or water near their clutch; I have used acetone with good success. Wear safety glasses, just in case it splashes in your face. A milk crate or piece of firewood under the left ski spindle lets you get enough in the hole to effectively hydraulic the clutch off. I had one last year that pretzeled my puller, so I grabbed the acetone and some electrical tape. It was off before the puller even touched the crank. The acetone will clean both surfaces (crank snout and clutch hub) and does not leave any residue.

Double duty! Get'r Done!

Just got done dealing with the same problem on my brothers edge 700. Same principle. I used Automatic Transmission Fluid instead of grease. Tried water theory with no luck. Bought a clutch puller and still no luck. Put the sled on its side and filled it with ATF and let it sit for 10 minutes. Came back with the puller and Teflon tape on the threads and worked like a charm. That primary can be a real sob. I will be using the automatic transmission fluid when I pull the primary on my dragon this summer.

I have been using This Tool from Perks Spin Balance for a year now and it works as well as the video shows. Very happy. EW

It turned out the clutch was badly damaged (bent) and that was why it was a bitch to get off. As I ruined the clutch puller (it also bent) I cut off the end and used water and it finally popped (scary). Now I only use the water...it's easy and doesn't abuse the crank

My clutch was a SOB to get off as well, I used grease and a puller rod from a proto puller. Wait till you have to get the flywheel off, it's another SOB!

I had the correct Polaris puller and it wouldn't reach the threads so it was useless.
