This year will be the second year for the Yakima Ski-Benders Scavenger Hunt and will be once again hosted at the Ahtanum DNR area on Saturday, February 10th, 2018. We'll be set up in the upper snow-park and will have hot food including chili, hot dogs, and nachos as well as pop and water all available for purchase. We'll have registration forms for folks to sign up on and maps of where to look for the prize plates. We'll be asking for a $5 donation upon sign up and dispersal of the maps. Each participant will receive 1 free raffle ticket upon return and if they return with a prize plate, they will be given an entry into the grand prize cash drawing. Cash grand prize from last year was $250 for adults (16+), $100 for kids (15 and under). Sign up will begin around 9 am and prize plates must be in by 3:30 pm. Raffle drawings to begin at 3:45pm

Discover Passes are required as this is on DNR land. As you are well aware, the snow is a little thinner this year down low but there is still plenty to be found up high with just under 7ft showing at the flag pole on Saturday. Please be cautious on the first 3 miles of the trail as it is very thin and icy. Scratchers are highly recommended as well as extra care and attention to prevent mishaps or spin-outs on the ice. After the first few miles, the snow up high was pretty dang fun this past Saturday, so plan on having some fun up high after a little added effort and caution to get there! We have a few great prizes to give away on the raffle as well as the grand prize cash drawings. We'll see you at the Ahtanum for some fun food and prizes this weekend February 10th, 2018!

Sorry have to report that doe to the lack of snow down low, the event has been canceled. The berms are still up and the trail is not passable by sled under these conditions. All 4 teams that went up today to begin setting out plates turned around after overheating multiple times. Hopefully the remaining ice on the couple steep hills on the middle fork will melt soon and DNR will them remove the berms to the snow line farther up the road. On behalf of the Yakima Ski-Benders I'm sorry we couldn't make it happen, we were all looking forward to it. See you next time.
