No snow, so we ride whatever we can!
My buddy just got a 2012 CanAm Commander 1000XT (100 miles)
I've got a 2009 Prowler 1000XTZ (400 miles)
We are both coming off of 660 Rhinos, both very happy with Rhinos except for top end speed.
Comfort:
Prowler is easier to get into & out of, but once in the commander fits like a glove. You sit "in" the commander, you ride "on" the Prowler.
I would prefer the prowler for plowing snow & general "working", but the Commander is superior when it's time to play!
Also CanAm gets the nod for having a tiltwheel with seperate Tach & speedo with digi & analog readout & temp guage.
I prefered the stiifer more controlled ride of my Prowler, but the Commander preloads were set pretty soft, some adjusting would improve this.
Standard shocks are higher quality on the Prowler XTZ vs. Commander XT
I like the fact that the Prowler only turns 6-6500RPM vs. 8000+ on the Commander, the down side is that the Commander's extra power is very noticeable.
It's quicker from a dead stop all the way through and he has close to a 10 mph top end advantage.
Fit & finish:
After driving mine & getting on his, it's as if you were going from a 4 wheeler to a vehicle. Not even a fair comparison.
Bear in mind the new vs a 3 year old machine comparison.
Prowler has a new design which would be far more valuable comparison & I would really love to have the new Wildcat for a day of head to head riding!
Both Prowler & Wildcat now have POWER STEERING!
This should be a must on any highpowered UTV.
I bought mine more for work & snow plowing & I would prefer it over the Commander for that.
He bought his for play, hunting, ice fishing & I would prefer the Commander for those duties.
All in all, a fun day in December considering there is zero snow.
Hope I've put out some useful comments here.
