Why don't you want PVR? It's the best thing since sliced bread.

I've been with Bell for quite a while now. Bell has better hardware and arguably better programming. Customer service is a crapshoot with both of them because they both outsource.

We got the Bell with the full HD package and the cheaper non-PVR recievers. Just plug a hard drive into it and it becomes a PVR for much cheaper.

I would go with star choice just for the simple fact you can run multiple locations on the same monthly plan, so you could have a cabin, house, RV etc. all on that $59.99 which will all work at the same time, so if the wife is home, and your at the cabin you can both watch satellite, where with bell (at least it used to anyways) you could still have recievers in multiple locations, but you could only watch it from one location at a time. We actually used to split the plan between my family for a while before they caught on, parents, brother, and myself all shared a plan, but it made buying PPV **** kinda akward :D

Another nice thing is alot of star choice HD programming is free with the basic package, and from my understanding they are a Canadian owned company.

Oh and another vote for the PVR, I don't know how I could do without one anymore once you get one.

You can on Bell, just don't hook the phone line up.

As for being Canadian owned, Bell is too.

no problem with bell anymore either!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! have it in multiple locations being used at the same time!!!!!!

good to know they caught on and opened it up, but what about cross border travel? If you have an RV can you travel in the US with the RV dish and still get bell coverage down to mexico? I am just curious since the last time I looked about 4 years ago you could not, so if you can I may have to think about switching in the future since I have had bad luck with star choice customer support, but they were always so much cheaper for the same TV for what I needed it for.

It's not "opened up"....you can do it if you don't say anything. As for receiving it in the US....not sure. I know Dishnet spot beams....so I would assume Bell (same satellites, same equipment, same decryption) probably spotbeams as well. We have 4 receivers in the house and just throw one in the motorhouse when we head out. (Haven't been south of Coeur d'Alene with the motorhome though)

I just didnt want to pay the 500 bucks for the pvr and then get 200 rebate or whatever.I have a hard drive to hook up to reciever but I guess Bell doesnt sell the plain recievers anymore at stores that deal Bell. The plain HD recievers they sell online are reconditioned units or something like that.I have three in the box bell receivers costs more for a card then it does to buy a new nonHD receiver.FTA was up today I guess, dishnetwork had major problem for a while had to disable their encryption.

You can pick-up all the standard def channels anywhere in the US, but you have to be in the northern states to get the HD channels on Nimiq 4.

I agree with Beels. Get the PVR. I didn't think I'd use it either but it is almost constantly full with the kids and my wifes stuff...:D

Ditto on that. When I upgraded to Digital Cable the PVR's were hard to get. I almost bought one without but held off. What a smart thing. The PVR is the best feature of the entire process.
