Can you run a headlight with the Impulse Turbo Kit?

I am considering the Impulse kit but would like to know if the headlight can be kept. If you can, do you lose performance by not getting as much air flow by the intercooler.

yes, headlight will fit and work 100%

w/o there is a lot more air for the intercooler...
an intercooler is much more efficient if it has cool air fed into it...but weather or not you'll feel the difference between a headlight and no headlight is probably a different story.

if your set on using the stock head light, you'll be fine.

i plan to run a single walmart style fog light and wire its on/off to my hi/low switch..
did this setup on a buddies sled and it got the job done..adds visability in poor conditions, and should get you home in the dark.

Yes

I actually ride in the dark a lot, so I kept the stock headlight in during our darkest part of winter in Alaska. In December and January it is usually dark when we go home, with only about 4-5 hours of daylight. I take the headlight out in the spring when temps get warm just to get more air through the intercooler.

how annoying is the wire?

as in, can you stand up fully and not have it pulling the connector out or pulling the light off your helmet, etc.

most likely, i'd store this in my pack/bag for if/when i need it situations..obviously dont' want that cord floppin around all the time.

hmm, still pretty spendy for only getting used on very rare occasions...

The Cyclops and/or Lead Dog helmet lights are awesome...wire into harness though, battery units are cumbersome...

I run the cable down the neck of the jacket and out the plug side sleeve...just unplug when you get off...plent of coil in the power cable...

A must for night rides...puts light where you're looking, vs. where the sled is pointing...

What MOB said and dont buy the cigarette lighter version if you want to not worry about it popping out. Hardwire it into your low beam. I have never had an issue getting out of some serious situations with that light.

$100 is a lot to you for a quality product after investing in over $7000 in aftermarket goodies already? Thats a joke right?

I put about 500 miles on last year at night with the cyclops. Couldn't of done it without a helmet light. They work awesome in the snow and the powder!

hehe 100$ is a lot, reletivley speaking, yes.

i dont really compare a 'light' to a turbo.

compared to a 20$ pair of fog lights, yes its a bit spendy. and when you factor in amount of usage i plan for it, 100$ is a lot.

for a guy that does a lot of night riding and plans to use it more than 2-5% of the time hes out, 100$ is reasonable, and quite acceptable. specially for the type of riding they show in the videos.

I thought of it as the price of admission to night riding. Not bad for what your getting... lots of freshies :D

Could one just take a cheap walmart light and wire it to a cigarette lighter adapter?

I think $100 is reasonable just don't feel like spending it.. :) As Rotax said i probably will get less than 2 hours of usage out of it.

Just picked up some 55w fog lamps, w/ wiring and mounting hardware.

$15 for 2 lamps.

That'll get 'er done. :P

Was too easy to do, while i was looking for solder they were just there.

Yes, the walmart ones can be wired to a cig lighter plug, easy cheasy. but the plug prob costs as much as the light. lol

I hear what you are saying. What I meant is that I personally don't like to use something that I am dependent on to get out of the mountains and back to my family with that is of low quality and rely on it to do the job no matter what. If my sled is running, my cylcops is running. That light has been tested on 1000 mile races over the roughest terrain. That meets my standard of importance I guess. Just don't want to need a light and not have it. The headlamp does switch easy from one sled to the other once its hard wired. Just a male/female plug. One of my best investments for a mod.
