Can anyone guess what this glob is?

I saw this burned up/ melted sled at Grand Lake last weekend. Not sure if this has already been talked about on this forum, but can anyone tell what it was?? :boom:

Yah, that's my guess, too. Going with 670, just fwd'd the picture to The Authority, a friend who'll probably be able to tell the VIN. Has to be S-chassis, though.

Yeah old burned up skidoo. No one really knew what caused it. I watched it burn down. Pretty crazy and smelled horrendous.

I spoke with The Authority.

99 Grand Touring 500.

He's almost certainly right - it is scary what he got from that picture.

"Definitely S chassis with the hood supports that are still there, but not a 670. Two piece yellow cylinder head, so that is a 500. RAVEs, so that’s 1998-2000. Has a sway bar, so not a Summit 500. Electric start, so not a Formula 500 L/C or MXZ 500 LC. I’m going with a 1998 or 1999 Grand Touring 500. Flex skis, so that counts out 1998. I say 1999 Grand Touring 500. "

Huh? A locked-on parking brake will torch a sled? I didn't know those older summits even had parking brakes :noidea:

On the newer ones, absolutely. My trailing arm crapcans would not - they'd notch a belt if you tried to drive away with the p-brake on.

Revs and newer WILL move with the parking brake on, they catch on fire a LOT. I asked a friend to move my 800 ETEC recently, I could HEAR the brake on, got attention before it was an issue, but people who don't know what it SHOULD feel like just give it more gas, which generates a ton of heat, which eventually turns to smoke.
