Can anyone compare Grand Lake to The Snowies or Cooke City, MT?

About to pull the trigger on a trip and wanted to hear some thoughts? I've ridden Cooke City, MT and The Snowies and am looking for a comparison. I've searched every thread and can't get a feel for how Grand Lake will be on Jan. 1st.

Thanks.

I have been to the snowies several times and grand lake twice, and heading to cooke city thes year. Grand L has a lot more good places to ride than what the snowies have simply because of all those damn trees. although you have to travel farther to get to some of the best spots at grand lake its worth the time and the crowds go away as soon as you get off the trails. watch gravel mtn though i was in an avy last new years day

How about the snow depth around New Years?

There are a lot of rental sleds rolling in GL at any one time (spore capital of Colorado). You can ride through town, it is a nice place good food and bars. The area is smaller than the snowies, there is a small hill climb area gravel mtn., the powder days and meadows are great, you just have to hunt for fresh untouched powder. Trails are well marked. hope that helps.

edit, boondocking is like driving the highway!

I hear things like this, read a few old posts and for some reason am having doubts on Grand Lake. Can anyone who has some decent + experience chime in to make me feel better?

Dumb suggestion.
You might want to try and post in the colorado section.

Ollie, you changed your picture. Nice addition. Did you end up riding the Snowies in July? I saw all of the rocks and opted not to.

I rode the Grand Lake area while working in the Denver area a few years ago.

I grew up riding here in S.E. Idaho, ridden Mt. Jeff, Afton, Sheep Crk, I.P. Lions Head, Revy, QUartz, Fernie, Utah, Lincoln & Cooke.

Let me make a comparison; Riding the Grand Lake area is like switching to a VW Beetle after owing a Corvette....................

Kinda Lame.
