I don't see how any of that is funny. They have one of the largest economy's in the world, and for them to be having those problems shows how tough the world's economic situation is in. This is much larger problem that immigration.
So of those jobs how many do illegals take? Manufacturing they might have some, construction I will give you 50%. Retail, I would say very few and of the 22,300 jobs in the film industry, they have very little of those.
Most of the job illegals do are working for you and me as maids and gardeners. They also do construction and farm jobs.
Construction jobs take jobs from legal citizens, but when a year ago we were building houses for astronomical numbers, their "help" was needed. As a general contractor you couldn't find good help, even when paying top dollar.
There are not a lot of people that even when they are without work would be willing to sit in the sun picking fruits and vegatables. Does it make it right? No, but most people would rather collect unemployment rather than work in a field, and they will probably make more money doing that. (again not saying it is right, but it is a reality).
So to say the problems California is having is because of illegal immigration is silly, it is a far deeper cut.
It's funny as hell, oh how the mighty liberals have fallen. California, downgraded to junk status.
Everyone gets a small grin on their face, when the superior ones screw up. They've been preaching to the rest of the country for so long, that most can't remember a time when Cali didn't "lead the country by example".
Every time an illegal gets paid, it's money out of an American's pocket, simple enough. They do work American's aren't willing to do, for the pay offered. Raise the pay, and American's will take the jobs. I don't need cheap everything, I need employed Americans.
Now, your construction statement is really funny. Had Illegals not taken so many construction jobs, the house building market WOULD HAVE HAD TO SLOW DOWN. Possibly avoiding this LIBERALLY created housing burst. Think about it. If employees were short, pay would have increased, increasing construction costs, slowing building. Not to mention, white flight from older neighborhoods would have been slowed.
Vegetables can be picked by machine, if there's enough incentive to innovate. But, with cheap labor just laying around, farmers won't stimulate innovation. I know there's some farmers on here, buy my personal opinion is that farmers are the one's, that are (or were) rewarding illegals that come into the country. I know they had to, to complete, but in the larger picture, that's a collective excuse. The history of farmers, and it's effect on the country is quite interesting. I can't even imagine how I might spell that out, without hurting someone's feelings.
