California 55 speed limit for pulling trailer?

How well is that enforced? I was out there 2 months ago pulling a small trailer and drove the speed limit and was not stopped for speeding with a trailer. Just wondering if that only for commercial vehicles, that sure would make for a long trip driving 55 going sledding.

Pulling a trailer is 55 MPH for any vehicle PLUS you are limited to the two right lanes and should travel in the lane furthest from the centerline (closest to the curb) except to pass.

IMHO I would observe the speeds 18 wheelers are traveling and mimic their operating speeds.

In big cities like Los Angeles u can get away with 65MPH if the traffic is going 70MPH plus.

Typically 62 MPH and under is okay except in small towns or remote urban roads

You go to a remote area and they see you do anything wrong like swerve they could be a jerk and ticket you for going 1MPH over the limit.

In addition if your trailer has brakes then you must carry chains for each axle having brakes. Of course this will only happen on roads where you might have to chain up.

Don gives good advice...personally I just went to a sled deck. Its easier to park, I have no issues with the speed limit, and no longer have to chain up if the roads are a little messy.

freaking hippies. ....

It really makes sense to make the professional drivers All go slow, so the one idiot with a trailer that doesn't know how to drive a trailer will be going slower when they wreck.

We got ticketed passing thru last year for driving 65 in the second lane....with a four place.

We knew better too. It is just a difficult thing to maintain if you are use to being able to drive 80 in whatever lane you want.

Also had to buy trailer chains for to get thru a check point with less than an inch of snow on the ground. My 4x4 had brand new studded tires...but that didn't pass.

Hey they got legal weed so driving slow must just be part of the culture?:face-icon-small-coo

Its total bullsh_t!!!! I will never put chains on my truck and trailer again. Just ruins things everytime I do it!

The 55 towing law is optional, until you get caught. Do yourself a favor when you get pulled over, ask the CHP officer why the 55 Law exists and the rationale and you will get this answer "I have no idea but I am told to enforce it, because your wasting natural resources" Oh wait maybe I have heard that BS answer a time or two? Its the Peoples Republic of California, so I guess anything at the government level goes, even the most ridiculous chain law in the western hemisphere. California SUCKS

just do 55-58.....you dont want the ticket for 68 MPH...TRUST me

big truck, coming down hill and watching a big buck north of susanville, just running on the jakes.....$480 and an azz chewing from the wife later i was tooling back down the road

it makes no sense to have the guys that do 80-120,000 miles a year going slower than the resident idiot in that state, but they are fun to watch when it gets cloudy and they hit the comedian.......

I have had good luck towing 65 and lower. I did get a ticket a few years back for towing at 69 mph. Always have your chains. I keep mine in my trailer.

i run a radar detector in conjunction with a radar jammer and "kick the tires and light the fires!" havent been busted yet.... and the one time i do, will be WELL WORTH the countless trips I made runnin' 75-80.

I love it

NO LIE!... that jammer is probably the single BEST aftermarket purchase I made for my vehicle!!!:face-icon-small-hap I run from Elko to central Cali almost every other week... I-80 across NV and 80/hgwy 99 or hgwy 88 in Cali... that things bailed me out more than 50 times!

I think each state has their own regulations about radar jammers.

From what I researched passive jammers don't work but active jammers do.

I looked at radarjammer.com and they write they're legal in Nevada.

I guess they are a good deal for $100
