Calgary - Revelstoke by car - How much driving time?

A group of four gents from Sweden flying in to Canada, Calgary in beginning of february. Will be renting a car and driving from Calgary to Revelstoke for some prime time on rental sleds.

What time can we be seeing on the road between Calgary and Revelstoke?

Any nice bars to visit for social time?

We are doing a once in a lifetime trip from Scandinavia to the real mountains in the west and are hoping for some information about our trip...

Many thanks

Mickenyman! Swedish blacktopper.....

between the 2 places are a host of good stops. canmore, banff, lake loiuse, golden, all good stops. a couple of sections of the road can be treacherous, depending on the weather conditons. usually a 3 1/2 to 4 hour drive from calgary to revelstoke!

Now I know how you got the name buck50 because you would have to be doing at least 150kph to do it in that kind of time. From my house in Calgary doing a little over with good conditions I can do it in 5 hours. My best time from Cochrane turnoff to golden is 2 hours and 15 minutes and on this trip I was in a rush.

Cheers,
Dave

Golden to Calgary.... 20km east of the airport with a cc d-max and 4 place enclosed, 2 hrs 40 min. We were flyn' low so to speak.

"legal" Speed limits 110 km/hr outside of National Parks in Alberta. In Parks and in B.C. 90.

from the petro at the cochrane turnoff, we've done it in 2 1/2 lots, doing about 125 km/hr the whole way! 3 to 31/2 is a pretty good time from the west edge of calgary

Travel Time:
Calgary to Golden - 2.5hrs
Golden to Revelstoke - 1.5hrs
- 4hrs if the roads are decent
- roads can be hazardous for 15kms before Golden, really curvey
- speed limit ranges from 90kms to 110kms, don't worry about speeding, just get there safe. If you hit the ditch, your weekend could be ruined.
- speeding fines are double in the National Parks

Sledding:
- Safest and easiet place would be Boulder and Frisby Mtns
- there are many other areas, I would only explore if you have experience and a guide, very easy to get lost without a GPS.

Places to see:
- Revelstoke (Zala's - great food/atmosphere)
- If time permits, spend a night in Banff (small tourist town with a lot of history, shops, restaurants)
- Also check out the towns of Canmore, Golden, Chateau Lake Louise
