C3 vs TKI belt drive

I have done a little reading on the two belt drives. The reviews have a couple different pro's and con's for each.

TKI ... awesome customer service, well built... more rotating mass.

C3 ... harder to get ahold of, much lighter, more expensive.

Are there any differences, I am missing??

In the day and age of guys trying to get 400lb dry weight sleds, and lighter cranks, carbon fiber clutch covers.... Is it worth it to use the C3??? I was really leaning towards a TKI, but seeing the rotating mass difference, I am torn.

Please don't add CMX to my list. They make a incredible product, I just cant spend that much right now. Its a 12 pro with chain case right now.

I might have tore one of the seals on my chain case today, putting the drive shaft back in. I really don't feel like unbonding the chain case and putting a new seal in. So, I might just go to a belt drive. :face-icon-small-sho

I can't help but think this post is like asking the 'Doo guys what's the best big bore kit. Your info says you're in South Dakota? You may find it more convenient to get the TKI kit since he's closer and support is just as important as the product itself. I ride in Revy which is less than an hour down the road from C3 so if I need help I just buzz over there.

Well for the Doo guys, it's the Big John motor or Impulse turbo:face-icon-small-win

Not looking to start a war. Just looking to see if there is any more useful info than what I have found.

Yeah, in SD, the only thing close to here is corn and pheasants. So thought I would choose between the two.

Pull the driveshaft back out and replace the seal from inside the tunnel no reason to pull the chain case to replace it

Thought it was pressed in.

And it's easier to drag my wife from the mall than it is to get the drive shaft with anti ratchets out again.

A few buddies and I will b just south of Aberdeen in about a week to shoot some pheasants

See you got the corn, pheasants, a little adult entertainment... might as well throw in Mount Rushmore and you have it covered. :face-icon-small-sho

I know both are great products, the only thing that concerns me is weight.

Did you buy directly from C3 or is there any dealers on this side of the border???

Ok.. after some discussion with TKI and revaluation, I may have misinterpreted some info on the rotating mass and weight. Sorry for some bad intel or interpitation of the info...:noidea:

My understanding was the TKI set up was more than stock and C3 was less. I read it wrong.

Have you considered the Kurt's kit? If not why? It seems to be a great option especially because it is less expensive and the design seems very sound; what do you guys think?

TKI

Yep only for the belt drive pro's. Plus Curt's has only one gear ratio. I believe it's 2.42 to 1. I heard rumors that they are coming out with a belt tension-er. So that probably there will be different gears available.
My choice is TKI. I'm running a 2.52 to 1 and the sled runs great.
Plus great customer service. Tom is willing to stop in the middle of a busy day and explain his belt drive to you and any problems you might be having with it. I've got about 700 mile on it from last year and not a problem with the belt or gears. I did have one bottom bolt back out a little on the adjuster but that was my fault. I didn't torque it to the right foot lbs.

Love my TKI on my 13 didnt know what ratio i wanted so tom just kept sending me gears till i found the one i wanted, how many other guys would do that.Great guy to talk to one thing he brought up to me as both of us growing up on a farm/ranch.He asked me have you ever seen a belt or chain on a peice of equipment that didnt have a tensioner on it.Great point, thats why i think his kit is better then Kurts.

what ratio did you end up with?
what elevation do you ride?
what did you do with the clutching?

thx

I ride 5 to 9k I have a double cut team helix my dealer has made, run i finally went with 2:33 ratio pulls great and am runnning 62.5 weights

I use the TKI and love it. I have a 12 that had a chaincase and converted it to belt drive. Not sure what gear options the C3 offers for the chain case conversion but the lowest I could go with the TKI was 2.25 because of the size of the lower gear and clearance to the case. You could possibly go lower but would than have to do some grinding on the case. Something to look into if you have a 12. TKI has been great to work with. I was installing mine last Christmas day evening and had a question, called Toms phone number from instructions and he called back within 5 minutes.
