Buying this weekend... '06 Summit 800 or new etec???

Hey gang,

Newbie here but longtime sledhead just getting back into it again. I have my eyes on a 2006 Summit 800 151. new pilot skis last winter, aftermarket can, skid plate. X package front shocks, 3 in handle bar riser. Great shape. Runs great. chassis straight. New rings and pistons 900 miles ago. Can get it bought for about 4K. Will be riding primarily in the Black Hills of SD and a trip to Laramie or two this winter.

Then theres the greedy side of me and I found myself looking at a 2011 Everest 800 etec for about $9500... 560 miles, bone stock. Is the newer sled worth it? I will get out about 8 times this winter.

Thanks in advance for any input!

If I was going to buy one it would be a etec. Have a buddy that had a 800 and the etec 800. power on the etec is right there with the Arctic Cat 800 ho. You would have better resale if you ever wanted to sale also. Just my 2-cents.

Well, If you like compairing aples to oranges..

You are in the REV section so my vote is for the Rev chasis. The xp is a good chasis and power train but the e-tec just isnt for me!

I quess it really comes down to which one you like to ride better. And does your pocket book allow it! Either way, you will have fun tearing up some good powder!

My vote is towards the 06. It is by far the best rev outta the crate without a doubt. You'd be getting a nice 2.3" track and rebuildable shocks. Not to mention, with that 5k you'd be saving you could doo every mod imaginable and stomp a stock etek.
But like mastertech said, apples and oranges...If you like the rev, that is as I stated the strongest one built outta the crate. not to mention, you don't put that many miles on a year anyhow.
If it was me in your shoes, I'd drop the 4k into that 06 and get an SHR840 and some clutching. Point and climb mountain sled that leaves etek dorks scratching their heads wondering how you climb like that:doh:.

Just me $.02,
Lefty

I loved the Etec for the stock power and no smoking in the trailer. Starting on the first pull every time is nice as is electronic reverse. I really like the narrower suspension for easier sidehilling. Never had a Rev to compare, but I liked it better than the older XPs.

I own a 06 rev and an 09 xp.
I know the 09 isnot an etec, but I did buy it new.
I like both. They are completely different.
The 06 is an xmodel 159" and is just a brute. Climbs like hell and gives great floatation in our deep mountain snow. In fact I have a 2 up seat from a touring sled I slide on when my wife wants to go out ( won't drive), and it will go thru anything. It is just an excellent built machine.
My 09 is the summit 800 model. Stock. Very impressed with it. It is much easier to throw around and boon docking in deep powder it is exceptional. You can really feel the lighter chassis on the xps.
So, go with either choice. You'll love them both for thier strengths. But they both are a total blast to ride.
Good luck.:becky:

06 baby

for the money and how much your going to ride i would go with the rev.
the e-tech's motor is going out at like 1500 if your lucky altho there is a recall on it, but the rev is a awesome sled and, supper easy to work on
