buying sled off insurance company

Just wondering if anyone here has bought a sled off an insurance company..Wrote off due to crashing, fire or drowning....How did it go..

i totalled a edge two yrs ago. snap trailing arm off frame. motor and all was still good. had insurance dude come look at it said they were gonna total it. told me what i was gonna get for insurance money ($2500) then asked if i wanted to keep it. told him yes. He told me i could buy it back for $1000. i said ok. He wrote me out a check for $1500 and said have a good day and left. Went very smooth.
