buying new sled from U.S. to Canada

Hi

With the dollar near par and blowout pricing, I'm thinking of buying a new sled in the states and bringing it up to Canada.
Anybody on snowest done this? any advice would be appreciated.
Also wondering what taxes have to be paid and do you have to pay duty?
Would the warranty be void if you brought the sled into canada?

thanks

It's no big deal as long as it has the original tunnel with the compliance decal and VIN. But you might have problems buying a new sled. All the dealers have the fear of God put into them by the manufacturers about selling sleds to Canadians. You'd have to get someone else to buy and title it, and then buy it from them. And, there's no warranty unless you take it back down to the states for the work.

If it's a new sled, my thread doesn't really apply, but do a search for "selling sled from US to Canada" (I'm not sure how to link a thread). It's a good thread.

Thanks tim,
after reading your post, i'm getting a bit gun shy.
The deals are just such huge savings over purchasing new up here in canada.
A 2010 xp 800 154 up here is just over 12000, I have found 3 or 4 dealers in wash state selling them for around 8500.00 and with the exchange rate being almost par, it is hard to pass up

There's honestly no reason to be gun shy as long as you have the original tunnel w/decal & VIN. Very good info on the "selling sled from US to Canada" thread. If you want to put your mind at ease, call the border crossing you'll take it across. If you call the 1-800 # for Canada Customs, they'll give you the number for the actual crossing. My situation was different; tunnel had been changed. I'll definitely do it again, but I'll make sure that original tunnel is on.

kai, the process is easy and no problem. As summit boy mentioned, look on riv and follow the process to the t. If you can find an 09 rev that is new, you can get a better deal, and you will be able to get warranty up here in canada. what you need to do is do a change of ownership once you get the sled up here directly with bombardier. once the change of owner ship is done and because the sled is a year old(even though new) it falls with in the warranty guidelines with bombardier. Like stated though you have to find a dealer willing to sell to you, or have u.s address that the dealer can sell to(some are willing, some wont' touch you) good luck with it.
