Buying a used truck on-line

Looking to get different vehicle, right now I’m eyeing a Yukon Denali, loved the last one I had. I did a no mile criteria search on cars.com and noticed that TX and FL have a lot of them, and they are going for $5-7k less than what they are selling for around the SF area. I can spend less than $1k to get a one way flight, gas and hotels to either destination and save myself $4-6k but I remember being told that you have to be careful about what states you buy a used car from. Something about a “non report state” or basically it could be in an accident, flood, ect and not show up on a car fax. Anyone have any tips on what to look for or stay away from? I’ve known a number of guys that have bought trucks this way and saved a lot of money, got exactly what they wanted and it turned out to be a good truck.

Done a couple long distance deals. Some have been great, others were just OK but I have never came out paying more that I would have locally. The Sioux Falls area seems to always have higher prices for some reason. This is an obvious one but make sure they are 4WD if that is what you are looking for, I have seen a lot of good deals down south and then realized they are 2WD. As for disclosure I am not sure if some states allow for more or less, Carfax has been pretty good on newer vehicles for me. I say go for it!

I too know a lot of people who own businesses that require pickups and they buy them from texas for much lower prices than in the sufu area. I think the reason sufu prices are so high is because of all the people who want 4wd in the winter thus more demand. Texas doesn't quite have that thus lower prices.

I've never heard of people getting burned on trucks they buy in texas at least so hopefully if you check carfax and it shows up clear you should be good.

I know people that have purchased vehicles this way and have had good results. If you are still leary of getting hosed by the dealership, you could have them take it to an independent mechanic, of your choice, and pay to have it inspected.

I'm looking at a new body style denali which is standard awd so 2 vs 4 isn't an issue. I think alot of it has to do with the strong Midwest economy vs weaker economy in the south..... not scared of higher mileage I had a 07 w 200k when i sold it and she ran like a charm.

I've built a denali online and it only showed awd but then again maybe they only sell awd in the Midwest? Doubled checked and the few that I was eyeing are awd but ill keep a careful eye out for that.

I stand corrected, I see 2wd is an option when you build one. I haven't seen a used one that isn't listed as awd.

Zach,

My buddy sells new/used vehicles in Webster.
Give him a call & tell him your situation.
Sure he will take a profit, but it may not be any more than what you'd pay shipping a vehicle.
The best part is that his dealership will be there if you need it. (and they have a great service dept)

Call 605-345-4792 and ask for Loren
