Buyers dilemma...got opinion?

Hey all,
Which would you buy? A 2005 REV 800, 151, can, all else stock, 1500 miles....3500 bucks OR
a 2005 REV summit X 800 144, slp intake, fishbones, hand guards, light weight tail light, belly pan, 07 skiis, 2900 miles for 3100 bucks....

The X package...that means simply better shocks and brakes? Are they considerably better, or more of a marketing deal? Is the X package worth it?

My riding is pretty varied, trail, boondockin, highmarkin, all around mountain riding in sierra/cascade snow.

Thanks for any and all opinions....

have either of them had any clutch work or updates? I'd get the 151" with less miles and then just get a clutch kit, gear down, and get a vent kit.

Without seeing the sled, I would lean towards the 151. Less miles is less wear on everything.

I am not a fan of the 144 track but I would seriously consider the X package. The ski upgrade is nice, the SLP kit is nice. The X package shocks are nice-not just the fronts but the skid shocks as well, the better brakes are nice, you get different bars and risers. I think the X package is worth it.
Long tracking it would be buying track, rails, tunnel extension, and longer cooler.

With exception to the SLP intake (and even that is debatable cause I have on on my 05) all the other things listed are COSMETIC not performance enhancing. The 151 track however is performance enhancing.

I own the same sled, and you will be better off with the 151 all stock with can. Put some vents on it, a clutch kit, dump the tail light all together. Push the bars forward and hang on.

Oh and you will want to see if the rings have been replaced from stock. If they have not, you will want to replace the rings in a quick hurry. If not they will be pitting. Just hit 3600 miles on my 05. Now doing a complete engine rebuild.

You will get more miles and maybe an extra season out of the 1500 mile'r. I wouldn't go more than 3500 miles on a stock motor without getting into the case and checking isoflex etc. Mine was pretty dry and needing some refreshing. Depending on how many miles you ride a season you would likely have 2 good seasons out of it before having to tear into the motor.

great advice from all,

ya, i have to say the x package is very enticing...bars and riser look way better....the 144 track makes me cringe a bit. Whats the mechanical level one must be to extend to a 151/154? Expense aprox?

I like the idea of a stock motor however....not that I dont like moding, but because I like to be the mod-er...if ya know what i mean.

Read a lot on the best REV....06 seems to get a lot of votes. Mixed between 05 and 07...seems like its pretty hit or miss, and a bit of luck? ha!

So between the 05 to 07, the chassis stayed the same? Is it only engine and cosmetics that changed between those years?

I like the REV platform a lot....want to get a good engine however.

Does the 05 X package include the roller secondary? That would be a nice upgrade over the non X button clutch.

Othere than that, stainless braided brake line, light weight brake rotor, clear tank ( saves weight as there is no fuel gauge ). And the 07 skis are WAY better than the stock offset mountain skis... garbage.

talk the guy down on the 144. if he wont budge. go for the 151. extras on the x are nice, but to me the 151 is the better all around track. safer to roll on a lower mile sled forsure.

Dang...yeah, Im not sure....been looking at track extensions...thinking of rolling with the 144" and just extending to 151 or 156, seems to be not to expensive and something I could do, but the mileage thing on the 144 is discouraging...I guess part of it is price too. My money tree needs some miracle grow or something cuz it aint growin.
I guess either one is a good base to start from as they are both 05's.

hey so, sorry bout the multiple posts here, but:
to extend the track say on the 144"...to a 151 or 156...one would need

a-tunnel extension
b- rail extension
c- track (duh)

Now, is there any other thing one NEEDS?

What about things that are "A GOOD IDEA..." when doing such a process??

gearing? clutch?
adverse affects of not doing the "good ideas"?
been reading a bunch and learning tons...thanks for everyone(s) word
