Buy an 06 rmk 700 in need of a motor?

Ok, so I have an opportunity to buy an 06 RMK 151 700 with a blown motor. It will definitly need a top end as one of the pistons is cracked and it probubly needs a lower end as well. Sled had less the 1000 miles on it when it blew so the rest of the body is in good shape.

Question? whats the cost of a whole new motor on these things as I can probubly pick this thing up for around $2,000.00 US and was just thinking of swapping in a new motor and be done with it.

Good idea :face-icon-small-hap? or stear clear, maybe not so good of an idea .

I have some fair wrenching skills but have never pulled apart a snowmobile motor entirely so just swapping out the whole thing may be better???

(pretty stock sled)

Thanks.

i'd swap engines. i don't know what the price is but i know polaris 05/06 rmk's had some engines troubles. i'm not sure if it was in the engine or the crank though. but it wouldn't be too hard to find out theres a lot of knowledgable people on here...

If the 05/06 RMK's had engine issues what were they and what would be a good direct swap in motor, 600, 700, 800, all would be fine, 700 or 800 would be prefered.

If not a direct swap out then can the issues of the 05/06 motors be fixed by a rebuild or are the problems inherent in the design of the motor itself, ie, have they fixed the issues in the rebuild kit.

Thanks.

This is like dejavu, LOL..

I just picked up a 06' 700 151' in October for $1900 w/950mi. on it. Your motor situation sounds pretty much the same as me. Mine had a lower rod bearing go and had cracked piston and a busted case.

There are couple options for you. The first is going with the updated poo parts. There is a kit for the 755 where you get a new assebled crank with the 33mm pto, new primary and the 115 belt. I think I paid $860 for the kit which is very reasonable. I got a new case, pistons and all my gaskets for around $1500 off of Babbits.

The second option is going with Indydans Torque Master bottom end which is more pricey but worth every penny from what I hear. I was going to go this route but the money wasnt there when I needed it and I need to get this thing on the snow. I plan on sending my bottom end to him this summer to do the conversion.

While the initial quality was kinda crappy Polaris did right by offering the parts to fix it for a good price.
I am still waiting on my parts but I should have it back together within the next couple weeks.

I just finished up putting my 755 back togeather from a split crank last season. Parts were reasonable I thought. If you want a used motor check on e-bay. There were 3 of them on there when I looked. for $1000 you can get one shipped to your door and sell the good parts from yours for $300. Not a bad deal and a decent sled. My rmk has 2200 hard miles on it and the top end looked good. Have a friend back in the flatlands who had a 755 fusion from new and just sold it with 6000 miles on it. No engine probloms. You are definately on the right site for good info on that sled.
