Burnt down fire pit

So I spent all day building a great fire pit in my back yard got all the seats in the pit set up every last detail of you best back yard fire pit. Well if you start a fire someone who lives next to you will call the fire department and they will show up joke around with you tell you that you have a great fire pit even sit down around the fire to talk to you. Just to tell you need to call a day in advance any time you are going to start a fire in a pit grill or anything. ohh and have you put it out ohh and that you cant have a fire past 10:00 pm. Great response time though my fire was lit for 15 min props to the firemen they where really cool about the whole thing even talking about the bountiful must call every little thing in people.:beer;:beer;:beer;:beer;:beer; still got beer left what to do what to do :o

Bummer!! can't help you with the pit problem:o, but i will with the :beer;:beer; :D I wounder if the terrace peeps will react the same. I was gonna try and build one myself. I guess I better call the city first.:cool:

I still have allot of beer left last night sucked but at least I know all I have to do is call ahead to inform the fire department im burning. I looked up the law and as long as it is in a pit you don't have to have a permit but depending on city some don't care others (like bountiful) require you to call it in a day ahead. So I will call today and finish the beer on Sunday I hope.:D

So let me get this straight...you have to call a day in advance and can't have a fire past 10PM? Isn't 10PM about the time you start a fire? Are the laws similar in Woods Cross, and NSL?

I talked to south Davis fire some more about this whole thing. It is a Davis county rule and yes you can't have a fire past 10 pm below the fire break. You also have to have it in a pit or you have to have a permit for a controlled burn. ( that's how I understood it). But the only time it is even a deal is if your neighbors call the fire in so if you have cool neighbors that don't care burn on.
It must be a bountiful thing to call the cops on every little thing since a bountiful pd officer tried to give me a citation for giving my son a ride around the block on my KLX the other day. He had a helmet on and everything If my boys mom wasn't in the midst of p.o.s.t and new there is no law about it he would have given me a ticket. ( ALSO CALLED IN BY A NEIGHBOR). I grew up in Centerville and never had a problem had a fire pit in my backyard my whole life.:confused: Only had the cops up once and that was for loading my sleds at 1 am.:o

I guess that is why I enjoy living in the sticks here in Idaho, I moved from Wellsville UT to Franklin and now I live in Weston and I built me a fire pit here in Weston. My nearest neighbor is over a 1/4 of a mile away and there is nothing but alfalfa between us!!! If he wasn't the bishop he would probly have a beer with me too when were out there hanging out!!!:beer;:):beer;

What do you mean by below the firebreak?

Stupid laws....who want's to only hang out by the fire until 10PM??

Firebreak is the dirt road that runs from bountiful to farmington.

Wow...I see the potential for alot more fires getting out of hand above the firebreak on normal years than below it. Flying over Davis County in the summer that whole hillside is lit up with camp fires in the great dried out tinder that is up there. What is so wrong with having a fire in your green back yard damnit?

Interesting law.

In Riverton as long as it's a fire pit there are no restrictions what so ever. As for hours, we have a noise ordinance and as long as your party isn't too loud they don't care if it includes a fire or not.

My mom lives in Northern Utah and they have fire restictions like you are talking about because she lives on the east side of the highway with no firebreak above her place to the mountain so that is sort of understandable.

I thought that as well the irony of it is what five years ago or so the huge fire in centerville. My house was right below where is started and it started below the fire break leaped the road and burned up the mountain side. I really think it is stupid fires have to be out by ten as well.... Im not 10 years old I don't have a curfew Im a big boy.:D

I guess I'll have to invite all my neighbors to any future campfires I may have if I ever buy a house up here. Maybe that will keep them quiet. Stupid laws....

Where abouts do you live up here cntrvlsledder? I'm looking to purchase a home in the Bountiful/NSL/Woods cross area on up north to Farmington.

Maybe your neighbor was upset because you didnt invite them??? :D Well it was a nice thought. :p I have a pit in my back yard and have had fires until 2am. Bummer your having problems with your neighbors.

Not really sure it matters how Old you are or if you're a Big Boy. Rules and Regs. are made for a reason and that reason is: Only takes one dumb azz to ruin it for everyone.

Hence, the Boy Scout fire by my cabin. Don't exactly remember how many thousands of acres it ruined, but it was started by Scout leaders showing kids how to put out a fire (in a pit) of all things.

So happy burning till 10:00:D:beer;
And don't forget to call ahead.:rolleyes:

Did it really ruin it of did nature just end up running its course. Americans have a real poor idea of how a forest should be and the greenies are ruining our forests every single day by not allowing harvesting or burning. The USFS has way to many pressures from some of these organizations and indviduals to put a stop to every single little fire because "it is ruining the forest." IMO if it is human caused, it is OK to put it out, lightning or any other natural cause, let it run its course and protect the homes that the owners have put an effort into protecting in the first place.

How long ago was the boy scout fire Ron? In my neck of the Uintas I haven't seen much evidence of large scales fires that have happened recently. Murdock Basin is the only place that I can recall, but that is growing back just fine.

The entire western US is a giant time bomb. In a few years there will be NO stopping forest fires, every state will be just like CA is now and burning up nonstop.

Disclaimer: This is just my venting from being a contractor for the USFS fighting fires all summer.:beer;

In 2002 we had to evacuate our cabin and pray the wind didn't change direction. We got lucky but the fire wiped out 14,200 acres and cost tax payers 14 million dollars. You can see a lot of the burn area on our ride pics this summer. I agree with you on natural caused fires being allowed to burn. We are only one lightning strike away from losing a ton of Forest with all the Beetle Kill we have.
You won't get much sympathy from me about fires. Almost had to evacuate my house 2 yrs ago too.

Kinda fun to watch but scared the Hell out of us.:eek:

I live just below Bountiful high school. Grew up in Centerville right next to the Farmington boarder. SH is right the rules are set Im not saying I wont abide by them just venting about how restricted they are. We had a great party sunday night with no problems.

Due to that fire in the Unitas our cabin now has hoses all around it you know just in case. I have a strong feeling the pine Beatles are eating the trees as fast as the fires we cut down a dozen trees all ready this year.

Pine Beetles = natural disaster waiting to happen

It's just sad that there is nothing anyone can do about that. I just hope we don't loose our weekend home. Got insurance???

Soon to be all aspen trees.:( And so be it. We will still love it.

Glad to hear you had a good party Sunday night.:beer;:D
