Burandt Boards Installed on a Switch Assault

After struggling with packed boards last year, I decided this was necessary. It took a bit longer than expected for the complete install, but the 2nd side took half the time. (Total 6hrs)
I removed the majority of the original boards then used the RMK boards as the template. Also, I decided to drill and install rivets on every support bar to add as much strength as possible. For the footwells I cut them back and tucked under the original board that remain and added rivets to secure.

Field Testing Starts Dec 27th!!!!:bounce:

EDIT NOTE: I have added clearout holes in the footwell area where no material was removed, and if were to do this again would definately remove all of the material in this area.....

Great job installing those! I was curious if these would fit without having to totally hack up the sled. I would recommend trimming the front footwell under the hook though, otherwise you will build lots of snow there and be frustrating, also the rear wings on the tunel behind the running boards I would trim them to match the Pro RMK style lip that extends only like 1/2". This will prevent snow build up and also prevent the bending of the big lip. Again, great job installing those.

Looks awesome!! Excellent job. I have the same sled and was disappointed Polaris didn't add the goodies like the rmk model. I was going to install mine this weekend..now I don't have to search through forums...thank:face-icon-small-hap u!!

good work on the install. Although these looks really effective, the time involved makes me really glad i went with the madfab board inserts. 130 bucks and took 6 minutes to install. Been out four times on it and work like a gem.
edit; just realized this was on a switchback... which have different boards than the pro's and assaults. good work!

Thanks! I was lucky there were a few guys that had done this before I did, and there posts & input really helped my install. I agree that front section under the hook needs some clearout holes drilled at the very least. After thinking about removing it, I decided to leave the strength there to tie in the footwell.
I am considering trimming the back section as well, but will test this setup for a few days first.:bounce:
Cheers!

Did all the holes line up for the suspension supports, or was there a little extra Fab work in that area? It looks like there is a little extra material there. Great looking install.

Actually no holes line up other than the rail at the front and rear tie in points. For the suspension support, I left as much material as the holes dictated. There were 2 spots in the middle of the running board where there is very little or no material to fasten too (this is due to the original clearout holes), so I fabbed up a small "bridge" plate to ensure support in those areas, and used used a Large head rivet to capture as much material possible. This is the primary reason I decided to drill out and add rivets on each rib. (Boards come with holes every other rib). :present:

Nice work, I agree it took a long time and I know the next ones we do will be a little different. The improvement in snow evacuation will be night and day different.

Great thread.

Polaris should be offering these on the SB's as standard... The extrusion can be cut by them to any configuration they wanted.

.

Thanks, can't wait till my boards come in!
Do you think there will be any strength issues?

No, I think they will be good. I have a 2012 with stock boards beside mine in the garage and stood on both to compare them. The stock boards flex with a bit of weight. The Burandts did not flex and are very ridgid! Although, the install has to pass my preliminary testing next week before I fully endorse this mod.

Happy Holidays!

Update:Spent 5 days riding off trail on the new boards and all is good! No problems and they are night and day difference from stock. Very happy with the modification!

Happy New Year!

are the supports already inserted in the front and rear? broke my stocker rear support and thinking about upgrading to these or air frames, suggestions?
