building a trailer

just wondering if anyone on here has built they're own snowmobile trailer? ive been looking around the entire northwest area trying to find an aluminum enclosed trailer but am not having much luck. i also plan on using this trailer to camp and etc so if i built it myself i would be able to put in a lot of my own ideas.

ive built my own 2 and 4 place but nothing enclosed, might try an enclosed next. Its nice to put your own ideas and things that make it work better for y what you do. My 4 place works great for sleds but also hauls both out dunebuggies nicely, as well as 6 atv and any number of dirtbikes.

I built my own 4 place open about 10 years ago. Way more work than I would want to do again.

I spent 2 years gathering all the materials to build an enclosed 2 place all aluminum. Finally decided its not worth the work. Built a sled deck, that was enough work. Still got all the material, maybe one day.

When you find a good set of plans or draw your own up and make your material list you will find out that metal prices are threw the roof right now. I didn't build an enclosed but a 20 ft flat bed and i saved a 3 or 4 hundred but if ya figure your time is worth anything you will find yourself in the hole real quick. I'm sure most places buy there material in bulk or so far ahead of time that it doesn't effect a price much but when a individual does it there isn't much to be saved but that's just my experience

Built my own 2 place open about Five years ago. Cost me about $900. A decent new one would be abou $1500. so there is some savings but like said before if your time is worth anything than it is pretty much a wash.

Built my own enclosed last winter, haven't used it for sleds yet. I used a fifth wheel camper chassis to start with. This saved me lots of labor and materials. I got a killer deal on the sheet aluminum skin. I built a 2 place open trailer years ago, I had about has much money into it has a new one but it was better built than most.

I cut down an old holiday trailer that I had sitting around. Made it into a 5.5x 12 open. Looking back it was a lot of work and I don't think I would do it again. I'm happy with the result and it pulls nice, but it was a lot of work.

I built a two-place ATV trailer about 18 mos ago and had a ball doing it. Cost me about $600 in materials (a new one was $1500-1800). I built it too narrow to carry two sleds, but I plan to build some extensions to put into the stake pockets to cure that problem (I had a narrow side yard access at the time).

I will eventually do an enclosed trailer, but I figure it'll cost around $4000 to build, so until I really need it, I'm holding off. My next project is a flatbed for my truck.
