Building a mountain 2up...need some ideas please.

Hi:
Happy New Year everyone.
I have just purchased a 06 Rev 159" that i am converting into a 2up. Wife is scared stiff :face-icon-small-sho, to drive in mountains! We will ride mostly the logging roads, logging cuts, etc.. with our club, the odd venture into some powder I imagine. I have found a 2up seat from a 2006 GTX that fits perfectly, including hand warmers...sweet. With us + gear + 2up seat we weigh in at approx. 525 pounds.
Couple of questions fro all of you guru's out there.
The suspension is stock. I have dialed up the rear spring tension as high as it will go.
Should I replace the shock (between the 2 springs) to something heavier? If so, what?
The forward shock is also standard OEM, should I adjust this also up? replace it?
Anything that is relevant that I haven't touched upon, let me hear it please.
Thanks all.

A touring/mountain crossover, too cool. I would imagine the stiffest rear springs you can find for a Summit would be starters in the rear skid (spring preload does not effect spring rate). Some more agressive rear shock valving may also be needed as Ski-Doo does not sell a two-up shock for a Summit. Next, maybe some wider A-arms and shocks from a Renagade to aid stability. Keep an eye on the tunnel, it is not designed for stresses from two up duty. I think it is the thing to do, to enhance a snowmobile's intended service. Have fun.

I would check into if the doo 2 up/touring shocks and springs will fit..they would already be right for your intended use..same with frt end as well...as for the tunnel strength ..i have made these for my doo buddies who needed stronger tunnels..might be something to consider...

Thanks for the input.
I have found a set of springs from a 06 GTX which should provide a stiffer ride with the additional weight.
Now my attention is shifting to the shocks. Anyone have any experience in the rear shock upgrade on a 06? I like the ideas of clickers (Zbrox), but can they be dialed in high enough to support the rider weight? Any suggestions?
I'll keep an eye on the tunnel stress points...good call.:face-icon-small-win
Thanks again.

Hate to tell you, but "keeping an eye on the tunnel" will only show a problem too late.

The touring tunnels are built heavier.

I would highly recommend adding something along the lines of the brace shown above BEFORE you have issues.

I just made a new tunnel for my Summit as I have stuffed the old one from packing too much gear on it. The Summit tunnels have a lot of taper and get awfully short on the vertical support (sidewalls) of the tunnel the further back you go. On my new one I made that dimmension considerably taller as well as I went with a heavier guage of alum for the tunnel to begin with.

I don't expect to have any more tunnel issues!

It will be a LOT easier to add preventative measures now as to fix later! We have done a few tunnel fixes over the years... :frown:
