Buff / Rabbit Ears trip questions

So my riding buddies and i are looking at planing a trip to CO Dec. 9-13.
Right now we are thinking either stay in Walden or Steam Boat. We have never rode down in Colorado before.

My first question is how far of a drive does a guy have, to get to a parking lot to unload and ride out of from either Walden or Steam Boat?

My next question is what hotels would you recommend or NOT recommend staying at between the two town.

Are available parking spots hard to find this time of year?

Where can you buy nonresident stickers? Gas stations?

Any other advice or tips would be greatly appreciated!

If you are willing to drive all the way to Steamboat I would consider Hahn's Peak, which I think is about 26 miles north of Steamboat. $.02

There are a couple places. A little restaurant I think called moose crossing that has good breakfast. A nice steak house that usually has good food. I think there is a pizza/sub place too but have never eaten there. That's about it I think. You won't starve but not a lot o places to pick from.

Is there good snow at hahns peak, buff pass or rabbit ears right now? Or does one have better snow then the other? Taking a trip next week and just want to have the best snow we can get on, doesn't look like any place is Wyoming has much snow. Thanks for any info in advance. -Jake

I guess the night life will not matter to us to much, as some of the guys in the group are only 20. Looking at walden as of right now. What parking lots are all available to park at up in the pass? I see guys talking about muddy creek and dumont?? It is our first time down here so new to it all.

Thanks for all the advice so far guys, i really appreciate it!

If your going to ride rabbit ears pass most of the time stay in kremling, cheaper and easier than staying in steamboat. They usually have a sledder price discount. The hotel is right next to alpine motorsports.

If you stay in Walden you can park at grizzly parking lot which gets you to north side buff. Its between Walden and rabbit ears lots. About 25 - 30 miles from Walden. . If you stay in steamboat you can ride ears, buff pass (there is a smaller lot north of steamboat)or Hanns peak. Buff pass is just north side of ears per say. I like Walden cause shorter drive coming from north.

I have stayed in both Kremling and steamboat, both about the same drive to the muddy creek lot. Cat dealer in Kremling, Doo dealer in steamboat. More to do in steamboat. I stay at the steamboat hotel, $99/night. If you stay in Kremling tell them you are snowmobiling, they do give a discount.

Ive stayed in walden and ridden out of grizzly creek parking lot up to buff pass. Parking lot is at the end of a country road but can't remember the number. I could look it up if you pm me. Walden has a good restaurant to eat at. And get stickers at courthouse 24/7. Gas station in town as well as a bar. I stayed at a house that we rented for 3 nights from north park inn. Was a nice house and cheaper than rooms for 6 people. Still had access to the hot tub and a heated garage too.

Shelb, I believe it's County Road 24 to get to Grizzly Lot. Follow 14 out SW of Walden til you hit 24. Take that west until it dead ends at the lot.

One thing about Hahn's Peak, no need to trailer. At least we didn't have to when we were there. Is the parking at buff pass some what limited? I thought I saw a post on that last year and not good for longer truck/trailer combo...???
