We are coming in from michigan on the 19th to ride a couple days in colorado and then a few days in the snowies. we have been to the snowies a few times but never to colorado. I need some help as this was a spur of the moment decison to ride colorado for a couple days.
1. where to go? buff pass or the ears are what i hearing is our closest and best bet.
2. where to park? (we will be arriving to parking area about mid day saturday, hopefully we can find parking someplace).
3. what permits do we need and where to buy?
4. hotel or lodging options near there on the eastside?
5. suggestions on where to avoid or where to go?

Thanks.

I wouldn't count on being able to park anywhere if you're arriving mid-day on a saturday, I'll put it that way.

You need a colorado out of state tag.

Stay in Kremmling.

I would also recommend walden. You have to buy the tags at the city hall/court house which is simple to find. Park in the back and walk down the stairs to buy tags. $30.50 and they do not have change, so make sure you have exact money.

Buffalo pass is about a 25 minute drive, and I would guess rabbit ears to be about an hour.

I may be riding buff pass the same weekend. Waiting to see where conditions hold up better between there and cooke city.

So the only place to get tags is the court house?

If you plan to ride the snowies and buff pass or the ears Walden is your best bet for lodging. It is between the snowies and the ears.

Conditions are not that great now. There is snow to ride but it is sun baked. They can't predict the weather 2 hours in advance around here but the forecast for the next 10 days shows minimal snow at best. It is supposed to be 40+ in Steamboat everyday.

All kidding aside, if you are riding Buff and then wanting to ride the Blowies, then stay in Walden. Just a short drive to Laramie.

I too would recommend Walden. Good midway'ish point. Stay at the North Park Inn and Suites. Ride Buffalo Pass via Grizzly Creek. Not too far of a drive and excellent snow typically.

Still some pow to be had, from what i saw on my short ride. My motor might be eating a bearing. past tense. Vibrating something fierce. I can fix everything north of a crank, so we'll see if I ride yet today. Occasional flurries and sun.

Last I heard the parking was all the way back to the first Y at GC. Flurries and 37 F. Don't know if it's groomed. Huge drifts there.

You mean Saratoga. Laramie is clear on the other side of the mountain, if you're in Walden then that puts Laramie about 130 miles away not including the drive to Green Rock, which is about another hour.

If you are gonna ride the Ears then hit the Snowies there is no sense whatsoever to riding out of Green Rock when you're already on the west side.

Nope. I meant Laramie. I drove it twice, to and from Kremmling and the whole drive took a hair under 3 hours. And it takes over an hour to get to walden from here. I've never been to saratoga.

...Did you go through Walden?

Walden is only 61 miles or so from laramie.

Ahhhh thats right nevermind you can go up through woods landing...

nevermind, I forgot about that route.

But either way ...... it's the same distance to Ryan Park from Walden ... I guess it's a toss-up ... If you're coming all the way from Michigan I'd rather ride out out of the West side and not have to deal with the traffic .... but, it'd be nicer to head back home from the east side too ... *shrug*

I pretty much just hate even trying to ride the snowies out of Green Rock, that's what I'm mainly trying to get across :D
