Budget Mtn. Sled

I've seen allot of 03.5 1M 900 mountain cats for around $3500. They eat powder better than any other sled in that price range. Crappy stock clutch though. Most people have already replaced them.

I would look for a sled that someone has dumped thousands of mods into and now can't sell it for more than $3500.00. 02 rmk would be a good start.

If you can find a 900 AC for that price, then go for it. It still climbs and boondocks with the best sleds. Then you can mod the ergonomics (riser, steering post, seat) to match the new sleds.

I say stick to the RMK 98 or jump to the edge. The gen 2 isnt as nimble as the indy or edge in my opinion. I have a XLT/RMK Awsome sled Triples, load, fast, fun. But if you can find a edge i got one for cheap and i now have a sled that can keep up easily for under 3500. Will post some pics.

Oh really!

Id hate to tell you this but a genII and a 98 wedge are the same sleds with a different belly pan and hood.

2 cents on 800 RMK

I owned an 02 and an 04 800 RMK put on 1500 miles on the 02 stock except for a can sold it to my buddy and he put on 600 miles and the crank went out. Up until then great sled. 04 was piped and ported and this and that ran til 1400 miles and crank went. Great sled too until then. What I'm getting at I guess is I really liked the edge RMK chassis and if thats the way you're going, try, and I really mean try!!, to find a lower mileage unit that has blown the engine once (if you can trust the guy it was rebuilt right) and MAKE sure it has the PTO crank bearing upgrade. They put a bearing in thats twice as wide as the stock one. HUGE upgrade. Once that is done and the motor is rebuilt these things are very very reliable. Ride with a friend who has over 4000 miles on his upgraded bottom end and still going strong. Take it as you will just my two cents.

I'd just go with the 7 hundy and not worry about the crank. They run basically side by side anyways, and the motor is just a safer bet IMO.....guys get too hung up on that 800 sticker sometimes.

True, the 7 is a strong sled but you notice the difference between them in the last 250 ft of a long pull. Then the 8 pulls away. But I agree to save some headache a 7 with pipes, reeds etc will outrun a stock or mild 8 and probably be less hassle if updates haven't been done.

Mountain Max 700...I rode my 2000 MM for 4 years and loved it. Triple pipes really wake them up. They will run with any 700 and many 800's in the same era.

i had a 99 700 and a 02 700. The 02 700 was night and day diff from the 99.
Solid sled, put a can on it and your good to go.
U will waste too much time and cash on a cat or yam to get it to the RMK platform for that year.
I can keep up with any 800, just have to carve a bit more to get there.700 is perfect.

Aint it the truth :(

FWIW, I would go with an Edge 700. Less chance for crank failure from what I understand.
