broken steering post 07-700 dragon

Still trying to learn forum, probably incorredt reply first attempt, hope this is correct. I boke and welded the post last year so have ordered new this tiime.

If you pull the fuel tank back it can be done without unbolting the engine.

Air box is the minimum. . I just did mine on my 09... I did pull the t.bodies but I put a new tips on... the only bolt that needs to come off under the engine is for the steering linkage. The post will slide out of the lower bushing... unbolt, lift engine, and rest on the motor mounts.. that gave me enough clearance to unbolt everything underneath. .

I think my worst fears are realized as I was hoping the engine could stay put. Any electrical need to be disconnected or coolant dropped?

I have a 09 800 Dragon that all I did was remove the air box. I may had removed the throttle bodies but it has been awhile. I made a tool to hold the ball joint on the bottom of the shaft so I could take the retainer nut off with a long extension and ratchet. Not sure if what you have is of the same configuration as my sled? Worked for me fairly easily.

The tool I built was from sheet steel about an 1.25" wide, 1/8" thick and maybe a foot long. Bent one end 90 degrees and notched that end to grip around the flat spots on the ball joint. Used one of the ball joints on the spindle to get the proper width on the tool.

Hope that helps.

I pinched coolant lines to and from t.bodies with needle nose v.grips.. that is it... unbolt and lift off of bolts and rest engine on the m.mount bolts... you can access from the mag side.. With the exhaust out of the way..
