Broken key stuck in switch

I hit the key the other day with my knee and bent it. I tried to bend it back and it broke off, part of the key is now stuck in the switch. I was wondering if anyone knows if there is a way to get this piece out, so I could use a new key.

The key is useless anyway. The switch is open in the run position, so if you open the hood and cut the wires, its the same as turning the key to run. At least that is the way it is on my 07 M8. If you don't want to buy a new assembly, I might recommend just pulling the wires off from the back. Maybe a dumb thief would just see that there is no key and walk away.

I did tha same thing as you last year. I was able to take my ignition apart and get the broken key out but ended up going with a teather instead anyway!!

You just gave me an idea, I'm going to pull my ignition, solder in a toggle and leave it under the hood and use the ignition hole for my teather if the hole isn't to big.

Ign switch hole is too big for the tether switch. Plug and play tether switches for the M sleds from the dealer are not much more expensive than a walmart switch. Leave the key switch in place and mount the tether right next to it.
It's not too hard to cut, splice, etc, but for the extra $10 or so, can have the key switch and tether and no wiring to do, all factory plugs.

Whats the deal with cutting wires? Don't they have a plug? If you put a teather into the ignition switch hole you will need to put a thin washer on both sides of the switch.

the tether does have a plug, and it would still plug in, I just want to replace the ignition with a toggle, it's only 2 wires really not that hard, cut cut solder solder done. I was just hoping to put the tether in place of the ignition, that way I don't have to cut any holes and I don't ever have to worry about breaking or loosing a key (and yes I know it should be normally open so in this case you could just cut a wire if you did happen to loose a key).

the default (at least on my 07 M10) ...and i know this...is because after loading up my sled after riding last weekend, got home, went to put the key back in...and waa-laa...no ignition...WTF??....the entire mechanism had fallen out...nut still on the front, the center "column" which would be the "keyed" portion fell right out the back into the motor....all I had was the key wires going to the bottom plate, detached from everything...still would start...so you don't even need to cut wires...Mine detached itself, and it started fine. Took a day to find all the parts that had fallen down behind my secondary, etc...thinking about forgetting a key...not sure about the toggle you guys are talking about... but it's good to have a safety option to at least try and avoid some douchbags from taking your sled...

Here's what I did.

Removed the ignition and put the tether in place of it (you need to find some super thin bushings/washers to do this, like paper thin, if you use a standard 18g bushing or washers, the tether cap will not press the button in far enough and your sled wont start.

In place of the ignition I used a toggle switch mounted to the plate that covers the steering column.

Now it has a little bit of security (probably not going to stop any one that really wants to steal it) and I don't have to worry about loosing a key or breaking it.
