Broken cross shaft bolt

Yea, I broke off the rear upper cross shaft bolt putting the skid back in. :face-icon-small-sad

Any tricks to get out the remaining bolt? Shaft slid out and is on my bench. How do I hold the shaft without damage as I drill and try to easy-out the bolt?

New shaft looks easiest if there is one around.

Wrap the shaft in a rag and put it in the vise then center punch the broken bolt trying to get it exactly centered. I would then try a left handed drill bit probably about a 3/16, there is a good chance that once the bit gets in a ways it will grab and spin the bolt out. If that does not do it just keep drilling and use an easy out, it should come right out unless you cross threaded it.

if you have loctite on it heat it up and it should spin out. I think I have a used one if you are interested

Yeah

One of the first times I have had success with an easy out.

Weird problem caused it. One side of the cross shaft is 1.8 deep, the other 1.3.

You guessed it, I put the long bolt in the short hole, bottomed it out and broke it off.

Friday ride back on.

Thanks
