broke drive shaft, pro is still a machine that breaks

Well i ran upto revy for thanksgiving and a couple of hours into a 3 day ride, the drive shaft broke on the pro. I got stuck about 15 minutes before the broken drive shaft and was just enjoying the powder. Decided to rip a fun sidehill and just about got throw off the sled, when the drive shaft broke free and no more go. Fairly easy tow out. Bummer is polaris doesn't have any driveshafts in stock. Dealer told me a faulty weld, either way the dang machine is broke. the funny thing is sledding is the only motorized sport i do.

I do wish these sleds where more reliable, it doesn't matter which brand they all fricken break. i guess, i will bust out the snowshoes, can't stay home.

Sorry to hear that, my guess is they don't have any because they normally don't break. I haven't heard of anybody else having one go bad. Whatever the reason, this is why I always have a backup sled.

nothing like buying a $12,000 sled and then you have to go buy a backup sled because you dont trust it. unfortunately polaris has a long proven track record of unreliability i learned that the hard way years ago. Its unacceptable that they dont have the driveshaft in stock thats BS. Maybee a big dealer like tri city polaris might have one sitting on their shelf. Sorry for your bad luck

I don't specifically have a backup for a trust issue. I have it because I break sleds and that is the #1 reason. Even with my POS 08 Dragon, it rarely missed a day on the snow. I also have friends and family that will occasionally ride it.

Motorized vehicles break down, that is a fact. You just happen to be one of the unfortunate few that had this particular incident occur. Bashing a particular manufacturer for one faulty machine out of thousands is not the correct way to handle things. Hopefully your dealer is doing everything in its power to keep its customers happy. If you really want to be mad, find out who the welder was that assembled or inspected that particular part and lynch him! LOL!

Call up Mark Hoffmann at CMX.. he may have a shaft to sell since he installs his complete drivetrain... Also try Xtreme motorsports (I belive that is their name) they had a cmx drive in a pro at the SLC show.

That may get you on the snow faster... and then keep the dealer one as a spare or sell it once it comes in on warranty.

I would say the same for Doo's mountain sleds and clutching. Some guys run through multiple belts a season and the dealers have issues fixing it. Cat has had issues with cables, bearings, chains and heat. So it is not only isolated to Poo, It just plain sucks when they take a dump on you. I think the dealers and industry needs to have a higher standard of customer service. The interesting thing is we are ripping, tearing, jumping, hucking and carving at high rpms & high speeds and act surprised when our stuff breaks. I do not have a backup sled but I could ride the Super wide for fun if I had to!

These forums never cease to amaze me. No one in ANY business has a 100% success rate. There is always a percentage of failures. Some more than others. Frankly, I think it's truly amazing these sleds take us in and bring us back almost 100% of the time after the abuse we put them through. Same with dirt bikes and quads. Serious torment.
Then when one part fails, the whole sled is a POS. I don't believe so.
