The whole sled has 500 miles or just the motor?
Get the head off at least and do some inspection of possible or more than likely damage and go from there. Piston edge generally goes if a ring is broken and you will be doing pistons as well--then find where the metal went--out the pipe or in the crankcase?
For rings--get the race rings, not the stock replacements.

just put a top end in mine, ordered all parts from a skidoo dealer and did the work myself, got about $700 into it now. just had the cylinders honed for $30, if yours are dammaged your probably lookin at $1000 or better

Damn! Sleds are such money pits! But theyre damn fun tho!
If you don't fix motor I'd buy some parts
Replacing rings/pistons if needed is really easy.
Buy a set of drop in pistons, get your cylinder re-coated if it needs it (probably does).
I had really good luck with US Chrome.

BTW.. IF you belong to a registered Snowmobile Club US Chrome will knock $50 off of a re-coat. So it is usually worth it to join. $35 to join our club... so even with that you save $15.
