Bring me up to speed please.

Hello all, new member here.
Was hoping someone could bring me up to speed on a few things. I gave up snowmobiling a few years back. My real passion is dirt biking. I was in the dealer picking up some parts for the summer bike (2009 250 rmz), when I saw a 2013 husaberg 501 with a lt kit on it. Three days later I had it in my shop. I LOVE THIS THING !!!!
Now for some help , the air box is packing full of snow in certain conditions.Do you oil the air filter as much as summer riding? I am also getting alot of fuel in my oil. (I do oil sampling on it.) It averages 1% per hour of riding. Thats seems like a ton. Dealer tells me they can't remap, not sure if thats the way to go anyway. Power comander does not make a controler for it. Not sure about Dobeck? Looking for someone with the same bike to see what they have done. Any help would be great. Riding in waist deep powder in central B.C.

Don't oil the filter. Actually , remove the filter and wrap the cage with the prefilter that comes with the kit. The gas in the oil is caused by a lack of heat in the motor. A good skidplate or engine cover is the solution(assuming the 501 has a thermostat). Draxxus had a good thread on a skidplate. Scroll through past thread in this section. Lots of good info.

Thanks up-high !

The bike has the same skid plate as ktms. I will try and seal off the edges of it. Good info on the filter. This is the first kit dealer has put together. They probably didnt know that.
Thanks

There are several prior threads that address airbox issues, but they are pretty far back. In general there are 2 options to address snow accumulation. Either cut the bottom out of the air box so that snow falls out or remove the air box and run a "pod" type intake using an appropriately sized silicone intake 45 degree reducer. A prefilter without a filter underneath is probably best filter arrangement

up to your....whatever

one issue is the waist deep powder. better times to come. when you ride some funner snow condtions a whole lot of bike poor bike running conditions disappear. All fun out there in the cold and deep this month. But when the snow settles, less strain on the bike, warmer running without the snow sucking heat...................all a whole lot better. Like most snow sports. best would be to leave everything in the garage until March 1st, then ride 60 days straight until you'r ready for the dirt.

Really,it gets even better.......

I love the look on peoples faces when they expect you to get stuck with that "thing", and then you fly past them through the trees.
One other thing I am going to try is, I bought another side cover over the filter. I am going to install two of the 2.5 inch screens they have for the air boxes on sleds. The Berg currently draws its air from a baffle system in the rear of the subframe. A sorce or alot of the snow dust. Its going to be behind my leg in riding position, but my leg will brush back once in a while. Should clean off any snow that builds up on it.
Just an idea.Let you know if it works. Thanks for all the info guys, I have some work to do.....:face-icon-small-hap

Save yourself a alot of time and money and just take the airbox off. A lot of people including myself have tried to make the airbox work but on a light powder day it's almost impossible to keep them from filling up with snow. A pod filter will provide a lot more air for your engine anyway which will give you some more hp.

plugged air box

When I was riding the 530 and 500 I filled the air box with that open cell foam that is used on snowmobile air intakes. It filled the space so the snow couldn't pack it. Worked just fine. Now I'm riding a KX and the filter is out in the open so no snow packs around it. Someone had suggested spraying the sock with WD40. THAT DID NOT WORK! When it got cold it just kind of jelled-up and restricted air flow.

Just cut the bottom of the air box off, it works decently if you do that and don't mess with the battery mount.

Another option is to turbo the bike, then you get no build up whatsoever.
