Break in Ride on my 2014 pro 163 LE ES

I finally got out with my new pro for its first ride I put on a total of 57 miles.Early conditions but very good about 3' base and 2' on top of that. The 2 feet on top was awsome powder not to wet or dry.Man does my new 14 carve nice I swear even better than my 12 155.I never exceeded 50mph on trail with new QD belt.I never really babied the engine lots of up down saw 8300rpm,cooled off sled multiple times.Clutch did get hot carving in heavy powder have to vent it yet.Sled never hiccuped once and ran flawlessly with MBRP can on.There were 3 times when i'm pretty sure I would have been stuck with my 155 but I powered out all 3 times and never had 1 stuck yesterday.I stayed off the steep due 2 rocks as there is nothing worse than tweaking a BN sled.So far my new 14 had exceeded my expectations.I did loosen RT shock before initial ride and added2" riser and it seems easier to wheelie than my 12.Loving it!!Shell gold 91

Nice sled I bought an identical model. Quick question

Congrats on new sled! I have a quick question though. I was prepping my sled for a break-in ride and I noticed that the oil tank has green tint to it and not a gold tint like a sled with VES gold synthetic oil in it. Did Polaris do something different for a break-in oil? I'm not willing to throw my dealer under the bus for adding the wrong oil during set-up because it only has 1/4 tank of oil in it. Does anyone have any insight to why a different color oil in tank on a brand new sled? Does anyone know how much oil comes in tank from factory during dealer delivery? Thanks for a quick reply trying to leave on a trip in two days.

some dealers out in the non synthetic for breakin, its blue....I use redline race cart oil in all mine btw good stuff

Thanks Guys

I wasn't too worried because I thought of the same thing about the dealer using dinosaur oil for breaking in the engine, it was just too late to call them tonight to confirm. Looking forward to pulling the trigger on the new ride! (Right after I turn the key to start it) LMAO... I'm getting lazy as I get old!

The owners manual clearly states gold in both the injection tank AND the fuel tank pre-mixed for break in. That said, dino mixes better with gasoline than synthetic. Mine also came from the dealer with Polaris Blue pre-mixed in the gas tank. Should be just fine either way.

Update

Spoke with the dealer this morning, they said sleds come from Polaris with blue oil in tank. Good to know info... just thought I would forward my findings.

I prep poo's they come with just enough oil to prime the system before shipping, (and everyone I have done has had VES gold in it......we dump 2 qts in every sled we do, 1/4 qt in the fuel tank, and 1 and 3/4 qt into the oil tank(just over 1/2 full).

PS ............ SC..glad you love the new pro..hoping I can get on a 16 down the road...how do you like the 163 over the 155? I have always loved my 163's....

My dealer advised that the oil in the tank when new was the dyno oil without blue dye.

Isn't it great to have such a bunch of professionals in the dealer network. What do we have in this thread, three or four versions from different dealers? Is there some way to get some consistency? Sure would make me fell better about buying the product. I had two different dealers tell me they had seen ZERO engine failures in the Pro. Too bad I knew of one that went down... " oh yeah, but that was the owners fault".... right.

I was considering extending the warranty but from what I have seen and read, I am probably better off on my own. Wasn't that way with my Cat. Isn't that way with my buddies Doo.

I love the 163 it was the main reason I traded up from my 12.This one surfs as easy as my 12
155 I loved taking it thru some real tight stuff and just chugging through. I also got to close to a tree and got sucked in.Bar hit tree as I stopped in hole.Yanked sled over pinned it and out it came. Love it.

repy I got from Polaris when I asked the oil type question.

The start of my correspondence to Polaris on type of oil initially installed by the factory:
I'm just prepping my sled for a first trip and I noticed the oil in the 2 cycle tank is green in color and not gold like Polaris VES gold. There is about 1/4 of a tank of oil in it. Did my dealer incorrectly add the wrong oil during set-up. Or is there a special break-in oil put in at the factory? all the oil lines are also green oil in color, so I assume the sled has been run in this configuration.

Thank you for contacting Polaris Industries. I understand that you have a question regarding the type of oil used for your 2014 800 Pro RMK snowmobile.

My response to them was:

Hello Lori,

The reason I’m asking you (Polaris) is because I was curious what the factory does during initial set-up. The question was rather simple regarding what type of oil does Polaris put in the oil tank of snowmobiles that leave the factory.

Thank you,
Bens2

This is where I am with Polaris this far I will let you know if they respond back.

Just a side note: I'm not mad at Polaris but I was surprised that they haven't provided a factual answer but referred me to the "dealer network"

I was told by my dealer that non-synthetic(conventional)oil is better for break-in. I think I read that somewhere else too. I guess it seats the rings better than synthetic.

OK, so I went digging, this is the newest info I can find from poo on which oil for break in...

2011 800 CFI Recommended Break-In Procedures
Since snow is just around the corner, and your customers are picking up their new 2011 800 CFI snowmobiles, the Polaris
Snowmobile Group thought it would be a great time to review the recommended snowmobile break-in procedures with
your customers at the time of delivery.
Engine Break-In
 The engine break-in period is considered the first full tank of fuel.
 The drive clutch must be properly setup with the correct weights for the altitude the snowmobile will be operated.
 Always pre-mix the first full tank of fuel with oil using a 40:1 ratio (32 ounces of oil per 10 gallons of fuel).
 Premix the first full tank of fuel and fill the oil reservoir with Polaris Premium 2-Cycle Semi-Synthetic oil. Polaris
semi-synthetic engine oil will seat the rings faster than when using Polaris VES Gold Plus oil.
 After the engine break-in period, change over to Polaris VES Gold Plus oil as the break-in oil in the reservoir is
drawn down.
 During the break-in period, monitor the oil level in the reservoir as it should slowly drop indicating the oil pump
system is working. Inspect the engine oil supply lines to verify any air bubbles have been pushed through.

Now with that said, some of the most expensive engines in the word come from the factory with full synthetic oil new..your choice , I have built a crap load of motors over the years, really haven't had an issue with either dyno or synthetic for breakin(especially in the last 20 yrs with better ring material/methods and quality oil...... but yes..Polaris says for break in semi synthetic..then move over to full synthetic...

yah im sure there's better ways but that's what my book says..... heard the old synthetics wash off engine parts and don't lube properly stories but we have had good luck forever with synthetic as well.
