Break in period

I just bought the 17 pro and an SLP can for it. Have been told to break it in before installing the can. I have had many other new sleds and put them on before break in without an issue but not sure and this one. Any thoughts/recommendations?

I assume your concern is about a potential warranty denial because of the can. Truth be told, a well designed can (which SLP's is) has no effect on engine operation, it just reduces weight and sounds better. I don't believe you will have an engine problem during break-in (or at any time after) that is caused by the can, however if there is a manufacturing defect in the motor it will most likely show up on the first ride (probably within the first 10 miles). For this reason, I would leave it stock for the first ride and then put the can on.

I started out on a new 16 Axys last year with a Diamond S Titanium can on it from the first ride. It worked great and reduced the sled weight by 15 lbs. I would run the can on the first ride if it was me. It will not hurt anything and it will not show up on the ECU if checked even if an aftermarket muffler voids the warranty. I don't think that it does by the way.

I wouldn't worry about running the can right away. That said, if it makes you feel better running the stock muff for the first ride...it's not a big job to swap, so no harm there either. Have seen many with a can from 0 miles and no issues

I have the SLP pipe and can, and the shop said wait until Ive run through 2 tanks breaking it in before installing. Im fine with waiting until after breaking it in, its the 2 TANKS of on and off to break it in I have a problem with LM:face-icon-small-disAO

Does anyone really wait for 2 tanks before pinning it?

I have a 17 and had the dealer install a SLP pipe and can, dealer said break in is fine with it on. They also said this set up doesn't void the warranty, hope I don't have to test.

I ran my 16 with an SLP can from day 1. All this sled has ever done is rip!!!

We're running 3 Mtntk turbos at 8psi boost from day 1. A simple can is not going to hurt it.

For my 2017 pro My dealer said to wait to put on the SLP pipe and can until after the 2.5 break-in hours when the sled is running rich extra fuel and oil. Makes sense but probably not critical. Could be they said that because they'll also be doing some clutch tweaking at the same time the pipe and can goes on.
