Brake duct? is it needed?

I was working on my 2011 SBA and when I set the hood down I broke the big intake duct that cools the brakes down. My question is do I need this brake duct I see the 13' Pro Rmk's don't even use the duct.

Thanks Jake

The duct is only on trail and crossover sleds, designed to cool the brakes after using the brakes hard to make that unexpected turn in the trail. I wouldn't consider it necessary. I've been thinking about putting one on my pro rmk to help cool the QD belt when I run down the trail.

I've run my pro RMK brakes pretty hard on trails, and never had fade issues. Doos are a different story. Maybe for a CC racer, but the average Joe - it's just go fast bling, and, if you're not going fast on the trail, not very useful. Remove, don't look back, at least from a performance perspective.

I have a '12 SBA, and I took off my brake duct right away (removed the hood and broke it). I ride very hard on the trail and ditches, lots of hard braking, and I had no issues whatsoever. I wouldn't worry about it at all.

I was taking the hood off my sled for the first time. its a rush 800 but same chassis as rmks. I broke off the plastic bolts on the hood that hold on the brake duct. Does anyone have an idea on how I could fix it? Would a quality glue hold? Thanks

I took mine off so I could run the Polaris goggle bag and the Muffpot and mount from Woods rider. I can't imagine it really helping that much. The intake hole in the hood is pretty small.

brake duct

we have took them off on many sleds, but we also have added it onto a 13 turbo pro to help the quickdrive belt with added power

I wonder the Blowhole would help with cooling the quick drive belt. On the video where they light a smoke bomb under the hood, it looks like it draws cold air right across the QD area.
