Brake cooling/heating?

What is the consensus on the cooling through the brake on these? Does it cool on a long decent (how long?)? Or does it just heat your brakes?

Wondering since I'm re-plumbing mine and would like maximum freedom.

Thanks for looking.

good question so out of couriousty I went and took a spare one apart the coolant just goes trough the top part of caliper I cant see how that would even come close to cooling your brakes a bit so in my opinion all it is,a coolant restriction so im going to by pass it becouse I need all the cooling I can get for my 1200 wc motor thanks

It's not ment to cool the brakes, it's ment to heat the brakes. The coolant goes through the break after exiting the motor. The pads that are used on current sleds (even from the mid 90s on) work best with some heat in them. They also can be sensitive to icing in some conditions. The reason the coolant is sent through there is to keep some minimal heat in the brake pads.

:(:( dang...

just wanted to re-route hoses and stuff, and also loose that little bit of weight but might have to keep it now??

All Gen II and Edge has it, but not IQ/RAW.

Hmm..

No, go ahead and get rid of it... I don't think it's necessary. I was just explaining the 'idea' behind it. I'm not a believer of putting heat in to my brakes... they get plenty of heat from me using them.

I pulled the hose off my mod sleds and routed around it.

Keep the coolant going through the caliper. Coolant from engine is cooler then the break operating temp. Coolant may be 150, breaks can boil the oil and thats over 400.

So the coolant is actually a break cooler, not heater.

Iq chasis have air tube blowing at them.

I put dot 5.1 oil in my Iq. I know what its like to boil the oil,, no breaks.
